Summary: So far Sarku Japan has the BEST tasting chicken teriyaki in NYC!! And I tried many, many places.
Venue: Since Sarku is located inside Queens Center Mall which is conveineitly located in the heart of Queens (next to LIE, subway station, and bunch of buses), getting there is so easily. Sarku has been in business for at least 10+ years, ever since Queens mall did the renovation in 2004 and built the food court in the basement level. Sarku remains to be one of the few that's still standing since the opening. They also underwent a major renovation 2 years ago to improve the NYC sanitary rating. They now have an A!!
Food: In case you haven't read my first sentence.. yes, IMHO, they have the best chicken teriyaki in NYC!! The meat is tender, and the sauce just tastes so good!! Sometimes the chicken might be slightly burned, but it's still good. (That normally doesn't happen on the weekend because the turnover rate is so quick!) They claim they don't use MSG, but something about the sauce and the chicken meat made it taste good. I normally get #1, which is the original chicken teriyaki with white rice and veggie. I highly suggest going with white rice, because the mixing the white rice with the sauce is just purely delicous! The only downside is, the sauce can be a bit too greasy. I also tried out other food choices such as beef with mushroom, and shrimp. They're good, but definitely not as impressive as chicken teriyaki which they're known for. Sometimes they also serve pre-made sushi. But I wouldn't suggest getting that in a chicken teriyaki place.
The price of the food has steadily increased over the past 10 years. It used to be $6.05 with tax 2 years ago, and now it's about $6.90. The extra meat option has increased from $1 to $1.59. But if you go during weekdays (Mon - Thurs), the chicken teriyaki special price is dropped by 40 cents. Good news is, they now have 2 cashier machines, and they also take credit cards (except AmEx)!! SO you don't to carry changes anymore.
Service: As with all mall stalls, the service is actually quite fast. It's like an assemly line, pretty effecient. People complained about the cashier, but I've never experienced it yet, and hope it keesps that way. During the weekends, it can get really packed and the long gets super long. But that's because the food is good!
Overall, being a Queens local, I love coming here. It's reasonably priced, and you really can't go wrong with the chicken teriyaki here. My dad loves their...
Read moreOverall, I'd say that this is a great economical place to go grab a quick meal. They have Bento boxes. And they also have sides if that's all that you would like to purchase. There's plenty of seating available. There's also plenty of parking available considering that it's located inside a food shopping mall. Well, it's primarily a food shopping mall, but there are many other options for you to take care of your other daily tasks. But if you like to grab something to eat outside of the average normal American fast food, there is always this wonderful place as an option. There are many reviews that stressed the greatness of this place, which is good. I personally like the idea that I can see the cooks or the food preparers preparing my food as I wait. The crowd that comes in are usually a trendy crowd. The dress attire is casual. However, you can come as you are. Soon I'll be able to give a review about the other locations around here that offer similar foods and meals. And then maybe I can give it a fair comparison with fellow neighboring stores in the area. In the meantime, keep up the...
Read moreTerrible experience. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Very unsanitary. I went there for lunch and I asked the girl at the register for a roll and I told her what I was allergic to and they still put spicy mayo on top. I asked if they can cook it over and the manager/owner said no. I said so I'm I getting my money back he said with a very nasty attitude whatever. I would give zero stars if possible. No matter what the customer is always right. Very unprofessional place. Even the lady at the register is with a very nasty face. I said good morning and I got no response back. Also she did understand English. Just go to the Japanese place across the street. They are much nicer and make you...
