CubeSmart Self Storage — Local services in New York

I was forced to give 1 Star; actually -0 Stars would have been my choice; Alex Gio, another reviewer of CubeSmart 31-40 Whitestone Exp. said it perfectly; but my gripe right now is mainly with their General Manager Jeannette. My unit is up for auction on the 18th of October; I am a Senior, and have been quite ill recently having a stroke and expressed this to GM Jeannette; Two truly dedicated individuals David and Ferman, outstanding, caring men who went above and beyond to show most at "Storage Quarters" that the facility was like no other. They have been replaced now,; Ms. Jeannette has taken control of the reigns and seemingly feels her position now is to run it into the ground, maintain a nasty, arrogant attitude, a military environment and prove her point that she is tough, without a heart and could care less if you lose your memories; yes, to those reading this, this is a business, now that its CubeSmart, but Storage Quarters was a business built on family values. David, formerly of Storage Quarters, would actually call the owner of Storage Quarters, and with his permission, be given extensions on partial payments and extend the auction dates to help those in need. Twice this month, I came to put $1,000 towards my arrears; Ms. Jeanette declined to accept my payment; Today, the Angel of the facility, Ms. Robin went above and beyond her duties and placed a call to GM Jeannette asking if she would now accept $2,000; she declined again to accept it stating she will not take a partial payment and that the full amount of $2,358.58 must be paid. I stated I can pay the $358.58 on Friday, the 13th; she said "will not accept".... I then placed a call to the cellphone of the District Manager, Patrick....his voicemail says he will be glad to return his calls; I realize its Sunday....who knows, maybe I'll hear from him tomorrow, or maybe never. I say a prayer for myself that I will come up with the $358.58 by the 18th and I say a prayer for others in my position, that help does come your way. I also would like to recommend that Ms. Robin be seriously looked up as an upcoming Star at CubeSmart because she is compassionate, professional, respectful, intelligent for such a young Lady, maintains composure and always SMILES which is so welcoming. Ms. Robin is a huge asset to CubeSmart and I truly hope she does not get pushed into the backroom of bureaucracy. She is a bright light at this facility and would make an outstanding leader because she is the perfect example of leadership. Jeannette just frowns like she hates her job and but loves to show power; there is a time and place for outside power; inside the building a person dealing with customers must be professional yet show kindness in their demeanor; be outgoing, pleasant and be humble. I will not deal with Jeannette ever again and if I can maintain my unit; i promise to followup on the other inside aspects of this facility. Like it or not, many customers that maintained units with Storage Quarters are expressing their dislike of the new facility; lets see where we go from here. Anyone could be in my position; We shop and eat where we are treated with respect and respect does go both ways; why shop at a place that treats you bad when there are so many other stores to go to. * Just a small note regarding one reviewer; Ms. Paula Daniels stated over 9 months ago that CubeSmart was an excellent facility here at Whitestone Expressway ; but from what I understand, 9 months ago, "STORAGE QUARTERS" was still the owner; please correct me if I am wrong . So the cuddos should go to Storage Quarters. Unless something changes here with their General Manager, as long as I live and breathe, I will never recommend this storage...

As a customer of multiple units for many years, Cubesmart came in with their corporate greed in complete attack mode. Not only was Storage Quarters a great facility but it was run by kind people. Its only been about a month, and already its been turned into some crazy kind if Ghetto storage place. Rates on my 3 units increased tremendously, and the help here isn't very nice or friendly. They do things by the book and when you try talking to them, you get the blank "I just want my $12/hour" stare and they go back to Cubesmart "rules". The place is flat out dirty. They clearly don't sweep and mop every few days like the last guys, and maybe they touch the toilet once a day. Finding a cart was silly. You have to walk all over the place to hopefully find one. The old system had you drop your ID at the front desk before giving you a cart, ensuring that it goes back where it belongs. Things seem very out of order. The old punch pad security system has now been permanently disabled as well to gain access to the facility. They should have come by and hung out with the old guys to see that it was a well oiled machine. I am in and out about once a week and the decline has been dismal. I would NOT recommend coming here. You can easily find a spot That's actually in the ghetto not far away for about half the price. They have a Monopoly on storage in Flushing and the surrounding area now, so Good Luck. I will gladly speak to anyone in corporate, but I'd imagine a corporate response as well instead, of a real human. Best...

The staff at this Cubesmart location have always been great so this should have been a 5 star review except for the fact that they failed to do what they were supposed to which is to allow me to safely and securely store my belongings. Last August, the storage unit flooded during heavy rains and my unit, which was on the ground floor, was one of the ones that got flooded. However, I was NEVER notified so I didn't discover that my belongings got wet until I visited my unit in October. By then, my things had already molded and I ended up having to throw away over $2k worth of items including some irreplaceable books. On top of that, the insurance which I was forced to pay $12 a month for to rent the unit was completely worthless as it didn't cover flood loss.

So all in all, it was a total loss for me. The staff tried to rectify it by giving me a discount on the new unit I moved to but it still doesn't cover everything I lost due to Cubesmart's negligence. For that, I will never use these storage facilities again and don't recommend a company that forces a customer to buy worthless insurance.

Update: Note that Cubesmart's social media team reaches out to you after you leave a negative review to say to contact them but it's all lip service. Never heard back from them. Further reinforces that this company is not...
