Here are the reasons why Urban Sherpa is disorganized, inconsiderate of their customers, and not safe. Two out of the three occasions called for police officers to be involved.
The first incident with officers happened when returning to the city. The driver made an illegal right turn to the Lincoln tunnel. And the second incident occurred when we skidded off the road. Super small accident. It was raining and snowing. And we knocked into a few signs but also came very very very close to hitting a pole. The roads were not in a good condition to drive at all. I personally thought they would cancel the trip to ensure everyone’s safety, but that did not happen. That’s fine. Accidents happen.
It wasn’t the accident that was upsetting. We were all safe and okay. No one was hurt. It was how they went about the situation that showed that Urban Sherpa does not care for the safety of their customers and their employees.
Rather than calling the authorities to report the accident and also the fact that we were stuck in the snow, they instead called their boss, David. I was sitting at the front of the bus so I can hear their conversation. All David seemed to care about is where we were stuck at, and whether or not we can get unstuck ourselves.
Still no one called the authorities, or reported the incident.
The bus currently have a missing right side mirror so the driver have no visibility. I thought okay, they will try to get unstuck and bring the other bus to get us.
Not the case. Once unstuck, David told his employee and driver to head right up to the mountain. WITHOUT a right mirror. Oh , also the windshield wipers were not working. What did David say about that? He told the driver to ‘put it on medium instead of on high’. It was basically hailing and snowing ! You can actively see the driver moving his head to get better visibility in the snow storm.
STILL no one called the authorities, or reported the incident.
Not even 2 minutes after getting unstuck and driving up to the mountain, we were stop by police officers. Surprise surprise. They drove away from an accident!!! What part of that was legal???? I have no idea what was going on through their minds but it was becoming such a joke. Who drives away from an accident???
We ended up being at the mountain around 11am EST instead of 9am EST (typical time you get there when starting drive at 6:30am).
It doesn’t stop there. Once the bus arrives at the mountain, we were told to try to get back at the bus before 4;15pm and come back at 3;45-4pm. Which was fine. Sure. Maybe better driving conditions on the way home even though we are now at the mountain from 11am to 4pm. 5 hours. Oh but don’t forget time allotted for food. Because we were all hungry at this point.
Before heading off the bus to finally start our day at the mountain, we were also told that we will use the SAME bus to return to the city. Now doesn’t that feel so darn safe? No mirror, window wipers not working. Fantastic.
They said they will do maintenance while the bus was at the mountain.
At 3:50pm, we were heading back to the bus ready to go. Wondering what maintenance they did? Well, they duck taped the mirror back. Nice job..
At 4:15pm we were still sitting in the bus at the parking space at the mountain.. 4:30pm still there.
What reason? There may be two people missing. Maybe. Not sure because there was no list in the morning to begin with….
You think it stops there. That it’s the end of the day. Nothing else can go wrong.
They do not drop you back off where you are picked up because of 'traffic'.BS because their website ensures round trip. They always skip union square.
I would suggest ovvride. I’ve done dozens of trips with them and they are always safe, organized and they provide...
Read moreI am so thankful for UrbanSherpaTravels! We had a horrible experience with NYC Snow Bus for approximately 8 family members and myself. NYC Snow Bus Company was rude and not compassionate. In fact, they left a family member behind as we were asking them to stop and wait for a couple of minutes so he can locate and get on the bus with us. We were forced to make a decision to leave our family member behind or get off the bus. We got off the bus.
UrbanSherpatravels was so HELPFUL and compassionate. They were understanding and welcoming. They reassured our group that there was enough room and we will comfortably get back to NYC. After such a long day dealing with a horrible company (NYC SNOW BUS) we were finally able to say UrbanSherpaTravels was the best part of our day. They were reliable and reasonable. Their staff was personable and showed interest in the safety of their customers. They communicated in a timely fashion and got us back to NYC with no issues.
I will definitely recommend this company to anyone interested in...
Read moreI've been using Urban Sherpa for many years. Always organized and consistently going up to the Catskills almost every day of the week. I tried a couple of midweek trips last year and it was great! Hunter and Windham were pretty empty during the week so I felt I had the whole place to myself. No frills, just consistent and straightforward. Get on, drop us off, get back to the bus at the end of the day and I'm back in Manhattan by about dinner time. I have been on some trips where there were issues with the weather or mechanical but they weren't anyone's fault as these were unforeseen. I can imagine things like this happen when you run so many trips a week. They have always been fair and...
