I have now been here 3x. I’d like to share a story from my most recent class.
Following my 2nd trip where an instructor acted pretty condescendingly towards me, I decided to give YoBK one more shot. I chose a different instructor, and it was horrible. Hot yoga class. The class was actually good. Until, at least, the instructor refused to let me leave the hot room 45m into the 1H class. I told her I was lightheaded and dizzy and she said “you’re fine”, and told me to rest. Eventually she left the room herself to get me a hydration packet - which was even more infuriating as she used an excuse about air pressure to explain why I couldn’t leave in the first place. Even if there was a reason to not open it, safety should have been the priority. For the next 15 minutes I sat there looking absolutely exhausted on the floor (sitting up - I couldn’t even muster the energy to lie down!) as the instructor kept encouraging me to join back in. I was on the verge of passing out and the only thing keeping me afloat was water. Absolute embarrassment.
Clearly I did not hydrate enough and the instructors here need to recognize that and not subject someone to that. YoBK offers solid classes, but with some elitist instructors. You’re better off getting a workout at YogaSpace, Ghost, SolidCore, or any other...
Read moreI really loved this studio. It’s a beautiful space with clean bathrooms, changing rooms, and showers. I took the 8 PM Inferno Hot Pilates class with Megan, and the heat level was perfect. It was warm enough to relax my muscles without being too intense.
At first, I was surprised the instructor didn’t incorporate any weights. I’m used to Pilates classes that do, but we honestly didn’t need them. The workout was still super effective. My glutes were on fire just using body weight and resistance bands.
Parking was also super convenient, which is a big plus. Since the class was after work, I was worried about finding a spot, but there was plenty of free metered parking right outside the studio after 7 PM.
A couple things I’d improve. The music and the instructor’s voice were at the same volume, so it was hard to hear the cues. The room is dark, which I actually liked for the vibe, but it made it harder to follow along without clear audio. I had to look at others to keep up. Also, the resistance bands were the rubber kind that dig into your skin and roll up during class. Most studios use cloth bands now, which are a lot more comfortable.
Still, these are small things. The instructor led a solid class and I really enjoyed the overall experience. I’d...
Read moreI hadn’t done yoga in a while, but on a friend’s recommendation, I decided to check out YO BK in Greenpoint—and I’m so glad I did. From start to finish, this place was a breath of fresh air.
I took the Flow & Restore class, and it ended up being an incredibly inspiring experience. The instructor, Derek, was absolutely outstanding. He explained every sequence with clarity, warmth, and encouragement. As someone who doesn’t do yoga regularly, I really appreciated how welcomed and motivated he made me feel. His energy was calm, kind, and genuinely uplifting—it made me want to come back and keep showing up.
Beyond the class itself, the space is clean and well cared for. They provide mats and towels that felt freshly washed, which is a small detail that made a big difference. After class, it was great to be able to rinse off in the showers, and they even have beverages available for purchase, which added a nice touch to the...
