My sister and I came by last week on Thursday around 8:40pm; our order was placed by 8:45pm. You have to order and pay at the counter before finding a table, and we tipped 20%. About 35 minutes later, our food (two pasta dishes) still hadn’t come out, and the table behind me who sat at their table at least 10 minutes after us, were already eating their pasta dishes. I went to the counter to inquire about our order and was told, “it’s coming”. About 5 minutes later, the first pasta dish (mine) was brought out. My sister’s was brought out another 5-7 minutes later and of course I wanted to wait to eat so we could eat together, so my food was cooling down a bit.
We were asked by the server if we wanted a beer or wine, and we declined as we were already drinking sodas. The server asked, a bit condescendingly, “what, you don’t like wine?” I answered that I do like wine but I ordered a soda and was drinking that instead (note - if I wanted wine or beer, I would’ve ordered one).
We’re eating, and another gentleman came over to check on us. He apologized for the long wait and asked if we wanted some dessert, at no extra charge, which I appreciated. We declined as we weren’t trying to get free food, we just wanted what we ordered and our experience had just soured the mood and we wanted to get out of there.
It’s a shame because the pasta isn’t bad, but I’m sure you can get the same quality dishes elsewhere as NYC is full of good Italian spots. We were recommended Forma and were so excited to go but the service left us quite disappointed, especially when you’re prompted to tip before receiving any type of service of food. I’ve learned my lesson and won’t pre-tip anymore; I’ll bring cash instead and will tip at the end...
Read moreThis spot will definitely be one of my monthly go to's. Staff is super friendly and it was very clean overall....all the way down to the bathroom!!! It's not a huge space. So if you're planning on going with a group of 5 or more, try to go at an off peak time or plan ahead. The inside can hold maybe 20 or so but they do have outside seating.
THE FOOD As a mushroom lover, my immediate go to was the Fettuccine Funghi. That seems to be the crowd fave in the reviews. It was delicious creamy, herby, with a good mushroom to pasta ratio. It also came with 2 pieces of bread that was reminiscent of brioche in texture & flavor. However, the seafood lover in me also chose the special of the day which was the Chitarra. And boy was I shocked that this dish isn't mentioned more as a crowd fave! It's a seafood pasta dish with a chili wine sauce.....OMG! It came with a few slices of fresh bread, this one reminiscent of sliced ciabatta that you can dip in the wonderful sauce....my fave part of the dish lol. The chili gave the dish a lil spicy kick but not too hot for a person that doesn't like spicy foods.
I gave the food rating of 4 stars because their version of al denté was way too chewy for my liking. And I love my pasta with some chew to it. My next visit, I'll be sure to ask them to cook it maybe 1 minute past their timing. I saw a few people mention that in their reviews but thought nothing of it as I dont like mushy pasta. So keep that in mind. Other than that, it's definitely a spot to check out. Whether on a date, chill time with friends or a lil afternoon treat as I did for myself. 4.5 out of...
Read moreI experienced extreme racism and prejudice at this establishment. Not once but twice did the waitress allow people to sit at our table despite the fact that our belongings were on and around the table. When we first walked in it was a pleasant experience we were told to look at the menue and come to the counter to order. We left our belongings at the table came up as instructed the first time we saw someone sitting in our seat we assumed it was just a simple misunderstanding we informed them , then went back on the line to order. Less than two minutes later another group of people were seated in our seats again despite our belongs still being on the table. It was clear the waitress felt she could make more money with them sitting there than us. When we brought it to the managers attention he denied it being done on purpose and was very condescending. But how can you do it twice and mistake us for leaving when we literally have to leave our seats to order keep in mind the space isn't big so you can clearly see us waiting in line. We have patronized the other location and loved the food so when we saw we were close to this location we were excited. Unfortunately it was one of the most degrading experiences of my life and the staff should be ashamed of themselves given that the area is supposed to be a very liberal and accepting safe place. I...
