I recently visited Shore Fitness on a day pass and was extremely disappointed with the facilityâs condition. Several machines, including the majority of the treadmills, were either out of order or in clear need of maintenance. The water fountain was also nonfunctional, and the refrigerator located downstairs was locked, leaving the bathroom sink as the only available option to fill up my water jug.
Additionally, the restroom facilities were poorly maintained. There was no soap available, and one of the stalls was in an unsanitary state. After speaking with a few members during my visit that morning, I was informed that some of these issues have persisted for quite some time and that the equipment is very rarely serviced or replaced.
I had been considering a summer membership due to the gymâs proximity to my shore house, but the evident lack of upkeep and attention to basic amenities has led me to reconsider. If youâre evaluating fitness options in the area, I would recommend looking into alternatives such as Atilis or Planet Fitness, as Shore Fitness does not seem to prioritize facility maintenance or member experience.

UPDATE TO MY REVIEW as a response to the ownerâs response:
I want to clarify a few important points in response to your message.
First, I am in no way affiliated with any local gym or fitness competitor. I am simply a visitor sharing my honest experience. Accusing me of having a conflict of interest is not only false, but also an attempt to deflect from the real concerns I raised, which I stand by.
The purpose of a review is to let people know where to go and where to not go based on other customersâ experiences at an establishment. Naming other options for those who are looking for a gym in the area, especially if they aren't familiar with the area already, is not against review guidelines. Your assumption of my affiliation with another fitness center is completely wrong and a likely attempt to get an honest review removed.
I will again reiterate that during my visit, multiple treadmills were indeed out of service, the water fountain was not operational, and restroom supplies were lacking. I also spoke with regular members during my time there who echoed similar frustrations, suggesting that these are ongoing issues and not isolated incidents.
Shore Fitness on 10th Street absolutely did not replace 50 pieces of equipment, as the equipment in there is all mostly the same as it has been for over a decade, just positioned in an updated layout. Even so, that does not change the conditions I encountered firsthand.
Dismissing critical feedback and questioning the integrity of your guests isnât the way to demonstrate accountability.
I wish you the best and sincerely hope the member experience for others improves, but my review remains an accurate reflection of what I...
Read moreNote. The temp is finally below 76. It's 65! Result of heat off and cold outside đ See pic.
I reviewed this gym 5 years ago (today is 8/24/2023). Original rating was 5 stars. This is no longer the case.
FYI I've been a member for about 20 years.
Here's my issues:
Cleanliness has gone out the window. The staff could always be found cleaning. Now most of them are too busy with their heads in their phones. And it shows -- the floors get scary at times.
Along the same lines, nobody picks up after themselves. In the past there were signs telling members to pick up their weights. Gone. The staff would walk around often to clean up after the less considerate. I NEVER see that any more. It's sometimes impossible to find a particular piece of equipment.
It's hot in here! The thermostat is at 76 degrees, but some areas feel closer to 80. I can sweat at room temperature thank you very much.
Lack of community. What was once a great community gym is no more. Some folks would hang out for a bit at the front counter before or after a workout. It is my opinion that the owner is trying to discourage this activity.
The music. Used to be a mix. Now it's mostly urban and hip-hop (I guess). I realize this is for younger people. The irony is that the younger members all wear headphones or buds.
There are cameras EVERYWHERE. I realize that the gym is 24/7, so when it's unattended there needs to be an enhanced level of security, but it still bugs me.
It's obvious that the new owner is pushing to get young people here. I don't begrudge him that. However, I think many members here share a feeling of betrayal. The last two owners were here all the time and honestly cared about the members. I can't say the same now. The new owner is pleasant enough, but he's not here often.
The one good thing is the owner made a lot of upgrades to the walls and exterior. Overall it's still a decent gym. Just not...
Read moreVisited Shore Fitness in North Wildwood yesterday and was truly blown away. You can tell that they take cleanliness and customer satisfaction very seriously here. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a staff member who was friendly and knowledgeable. She gave me a tour of the facility and answered all of the questions I had. The machines looked new and the gym looked spotless. I really love that they have a sauna, and also a selfie room on the second floor, how cool! Honestly, Iâve been looking for a gym down the shore for a while, and havenât been able to find one I loved. I will definitely be back to Shore...
