The Oceanside Finance department, the one that handles the fees for water, sewage, and trash has an employee that is extremely off-putting.
Yes, one employee can ruin the good name of the entire organization.
I called to cancel service on an existing account. I waited on the phone for 20 min. This is ordinary with government entities. I expected this.
The conversation with the city worker started off amicable enough until I was told to repeat a street address. The street address is simple enough. It is spelled like it sounds but, I often get asked to do this so I was happy enough to do it. I said the street name again and spelled it. She missed one of my words/letters, so I started with the phonetic alphabet to help with the translation (she was obviously not getting it). She switched from inept to rude. The inept and rude lass told me that she did not need all that, to just spell it again. I laughed and started really enjoying the conversation. I said the letter and then the phonetic with it. I could tell this damsel was getting perturbed and twisted up. I laughed even harder (it was close to 5 pm) because, I knew it was getting close to the end of the day for this fine public service worker. Nevertheless, I asked her for information on how to lodge a complaint in regard to her personality. She was sufficient in her response but, I only do reviews when they are well deserved. Here you go...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI want to say the inspectors and the office people I have spoke to and worked with and been great. However I would like to see some positive changes in how Oceanside serves its residents and also the contractors serving its residents. One thing I would like to see is time windows (10-12 instead of 10). It is easy to figure out but because there are so many jurisdictions doing things differently, it would be helpful to have all details about the inspection listed online rather than only one time. The other thing I think would be helpful is if they follow the city and count AHJ's and created no plan check, or rapid plan check (City is no plans, county is 1 -2 days). Also if they could implement a PDF list teaching contractors which plan changes can be done in the field and which ones need to go through in office permit review. These changes would drive down cost and taxes for hard working oceanside residents and allow more efficient construction to take place. Hope to see positive...

I'm super familiar with the pier and surrounding areas. It's still very much a smaller town, however it's growing and expanding it's metro feel. I'm a city boy, so I like a faster pace. However, if you want a day to relax and enjoy the views, Oceanside is for you!
There's lots of sites and sights to see, lol. The Top Gun house is near the pier, and there's several fantastic eateries and specialty stores. We stopped by and happened upon the Supergirl Surfing competition. It was super cool!
I love the paths and sidewalk infrastructure of Oceanside, it's very walkable around here. Parking was $5 for the day, it's not as...
