1022 Cafe & Gelateria — Restaurant in Oceanside

1022 CAFÉ & GELATERIA in located in Downtown Oceanside and is a unique dessert shop that specializes in gelatos and coffee. They are conveniently located on the roadside of Mission Ave and you can see them when driving into the area.

Their interior is simple, modern and bright, filled with natural lighting from their huge window-front. Their seating is good for singles, couples or small groups. I especially like the bar-seating area that faces the road, making it perfect for “people-watching” (a popular O’side hobby).

1022 Café & Gelateria really shines when it comes to customer service. You’re greeted as you enter and staff of very knowledgeable & patient. You can try free samples of flavors and they will answer any questions you may have.

Their menu of specialty flavors varies & showcases their creative imagination and they even carry seasonal favorites. I highly recommend their pistachio and don’t be afraid to try something new. Although their menu is limited, it is very diverse.

A local favorite is their affogato, which is gelato drowned in espresso coffee and it’s a game-changer! Another highlight is that they use some of the finest natural imported syrups for those added flavor profiles. They also carry vegan pastries & make milkshakes too 😊

The only downside I could find was trying to find parking within the area and the only parking lot or garage is blocks away from this area, but that’s the city’s fault.

My wife loves ice cream! But not any ice cream! Coming from Europe and having visited Italy, she (we) loves fabulous coffee and flavorful gelato. So, today, traveling from San Diego to Long Beach, she made me drive back for a new coffee and gelato place. When we arrived, she told me: “If it doesn’t look good, we’ll just get out and leave!”

When we entered the shop, it looked so new and clean! The vibe was very modern and European. We loved the place instantly! And the guy there was so nice. He introduced himself, told us his business story, gave us samples, and made it a whole experience for us!

It was truly the best gelato we’ve ever had in the US. Our special gelato places are in Portland, OR, or Coronado, CA. But this gelato was almost perfect. I liked the strawberry, bacio, and chocolate flavors. My wife loved hazelnut, tiramisu, pistachio, and the special mango sorbet. She had a large and a medium cup. I had a medium cup. We got four ristrettos and a macchiato on the house. It was a real treat!

And guess what? Tomorrow we have plans to visit them again since we are staying in...

1022 is hands down, the BEST gelato in the San Diego area. I would argue the best I've EVER had outside of Italy. This place is a do not miss if you are in Oceanside. Let me tell you why...

I studied abroad in Sicily, home of gelato. I've had the hardest time finding ANYTHING close to real Sicilian gelato in the United States. That's until I found this place. Every single flavor will blow your mind and taste buds. I'm all for their classic pistachio, which is made from pistachios grown on the side of Mount Etna. How much more Sicilian can you get!? Their other flavors are insanely delicious, even their vegan flavors as well. They serve coffee and other hot drinks, which pair perfectly.

The owners Conor and Eric are amazing (as well as their staff). Honestly the best service you could ask for.
