The only thing disappointing about Rosewood Kitchen is that they didn't do enough marketing to convince me to come much sooner than I did! This place is fantastic and I am primarily speaking about the food & service.
We came for lunch on a Saturday and noticed it was EMPTY inside! But, this was because everyone was outside on the patio. No tables were available but some folks just left the only high-top table out there, so they were able to clear it off and wipe it down. I think this high-top was the best table in the place, frankly.
Everything on the menu looked great, I mean come on... We just made the decision to get as much as we could stomach:
Filet Mignon Carpaccio ($11) Petite Caesar Salad ($10) Meatball Sliders ($13) Lasagna Bolognese ($15) P.C.H. Arrachera ($16) Duckfoot Blonde Ale ($7) Latitude 33 Honey Hips ($7) Latitude 33 Blood Orange IPA ($7) Pinot Noir - Sonoma ($9) Lemonade ($4)
...and this is just for 2 adults and 1 kid! Honestly if I could have ordered more I would have. Just didn't have any room let in our fridge for all the leftovers. (FYI - notice that prices here do not match up to the higher menu prices. Not complaining but it was a nice surprise!)
The Carpaccio was excellent but a little on the smaller side from one we're used to. Still, the flavors were all there. Would have liked more capers and maybe a larger lemon so we could squeeze some juice over the arugula. Regardless I'm ordering this every time we come.
The Petite Caesar Salad used a house-made white anchovy dressing, which is more authentic to the original version that was invented in Tijuana, Mexico in the early 1900's. There is nothing "petite" about this salad. It came BIG and we were almost full from the beer & carpaccio and we haven't even gotten our main entrees yet. I am also ordering this every time we come.
Our daughter loved her Meatball Sliders. It came with a side salad, we she also loved (yes there is a kid out there that actually loves salads). She was only able to eat one slider, so portions are great here.
The Lasagna was an absolute MONSTER. Wow this thing could feed a tribe. So tasty as well. I can imagine the Pappardelle Ragu on the menu is a close approximation to the lasagna as far as flavors go. We had trouble deciding between the two.
The grand finale was the P.C.H. Arrachera pizza. Pineapple, cilantro & habanero marinated arrachera (Mexican skirt steak) with mozzarella, cotija, chili & sliced avocado...all drizzled with a house ranchero sauce. It's a bit spicy but I love me some heat. Our server Jessica offered to bring out some chile de árbol in oil to really kick things up a notch. I added a ton to my pizza slice and happily ate about two slices before I waved the white flag. I was officially full.
Service was excellent. Jessica was outstanding, and I noticed her walk across the street a few times to deliver to the other establishments on this street. Pretty cool! The Booze Brothers brewery next door also allows delivery, so you always have the option of dining in or dining "out" (like across the street).
I thought the bill was going to be sky high but it came in just under $100. Considering the quality of food & service, this is an excellent value. We could have easily ordered less and still left just as full.
As we drove away, we were already planning what we were going to order next time. Rarely does that happen, and I eat at a LOT of places. So congrats to Rosewood for knocking it out of the park.
Cheers, and...
