I would give this place zero stars if I could. This is the Orland Park, IL location in the Orland Square Mall. I went to get fitted to buy a tuxedo/suit in late June and was turned away by the salesperson there. I explained to her I made an appointment online to get measured. She asked me what the occasion was (my wedding) and when the date was for my event (early September), and after told me that it was too early to get measured and to come back a month before my wedding to get fitted. So I came all the way there for nothing (strike 1). After coming back a couple months later, an older white-haired gentleman helped me to get fitted, and didn't even ask me what kind of suit I was looking for. He just straight away started handing me different jackets and pants and told me to try them on. I explained to him I wanted a double breasted tuxedo, like the one I saw on their website. He then snarkily replies to me, "Oh, that's for a more formal occasion." HELLO? It's a wedding! MY WEDDING! How much more formal can it get? (now that's strike 2) Despite him trying to talk me out of it, I tell him I want it anyways and I checkout and have it sent to my house.
I come back to the store a couple of weeks later to get it altered, and the tailor doesn't even ask me how I want it. It was way too loose in the midsection for my style, and he tells me the jacket fits fine throughout the shoulders and back, blah, blah, blah, no alterations needed there. He then tells me to take it off and moves on to look at the pants (Um, excuse me? He barely even looked at it. It was way too loose-fitting in the waist. No one buys a suit right off the rack that fits them perfectly with no tailoring needed. strike 3) He tells me the only thing they'll do is hem the pants. Done.
I go to the register and checkout, and the sales rep tells me the earliest I can pick it up is in 2 weeks. They tried to schedule it the day before my wedding, and I was like no way! Are you kidding me? I'll just pick it up and take it elsewhere to have the suit jacket taken in at the sides. This place sucks! Stay away! Spend your money elsewhere. I paid $400 for a tuxedo and this is the customer service I receive? I would've been better off just going to Macy's honestly. Thanks Jos A. Bank for ruining my special day. Hopefully I can get it fixed somewhere else before my...
Read moreI visited the Jos A. Banks Orland Park Il location on June 15, 2024, It goes like this. I come in and a friendly salesperson greets me and asks how they can help. I thank them and tell them, “No thanks, I’m just looking.” But the friendly person is perplexed with my answer and not satisfied. They want to know specifically what I’m looking for. They want to know why I’m looking for it. They follow me around, and if I pick up anything, they insist on telling me about it. Then come the questions. What do I want it for? Whom do I want it for? And my absolute favorite — do I live in the local area?
At this point, I feel like I’m being attacked by a swarm of hornets. I can’t think, relax, or make a decision with them hovering around me. Their personal questions feel like stings. Anger flares inside me, and I’m determined to get out of there before I tell them to back off and where they can shove their nosy questions.
Refusing to reply, I shrug and retreat down the nearest aisle towards the exit. But the friendly person is after me like a hornet to honey, desperately trying to “connect” with me before I can make it outside to safety. Ignoring the pained expression on my face, they persist.
As someone who isn't much of a people's person, I enjoy the simple joy of walking around in solitude, imagining how those clothes would look on me or just browsing casually until I find something worth shelling out the big bucks for. And for someone like me, the worst thing anyone could do is shadow me around while I'm in my zone.
• It's annoying as hell. • It adds unnecessary pressure on me to keep moving onto something else after spending less than a minute at one section. • It makes me feel like a criminal - icky - to be more accurate. • I feel smothered.
I genuinely feel sorry for the stores that find it appropriate to shadow...
Read moreOn my first visit here last month, I was looking for a white dress shirt in my size, and they didn't even have it. I let the sales person know that I was comfortable with two different neck sizes. One neck size is of course tighter, but still wearable, and the slightly larger one just more comfortable for me (and it's all about comfort). BOTH were out of stock. I even asked why the shortage, you know, because that's pretty bad that a suit store won't have a common size in (not forgetting that I was comfortable with two slightly different neck sizes, mind you). They said they only get 1 or 2 in in a month...
On my next visit, the older sales person LIED TO ME about my kind of dress shoe not being sold anymore (I went on my current shoe brand's website later that night, and found out that they actually did still sell a few shoes in the same style still (not even on clearance)). The pair of shoes that were sold to me were at the regular (and pretty absurd) price of over $100. I get it is a suit store, but really? How do they expect people to come in if there are no sales? I ended up ordering the shoe as a last resort, and straight up returning it soon after receiving it.
Store was empty when I arrived all 3 times, and it's clear to see why. I won't be returning....
