Be very careful with this gym. They fibbed, and lied to me and charged me WITHOUT MY CONSENT.
Jason the sales rep was selling me on a $150 membership and gave me a one day pass. I chose to run out after my day so I could think and not feel pressured to sign up for a gym 30 minutes away from me. During my initial visit I told Jason I need to think about it because it is a 2k commitment for the year because they ONLY offer 12 month contracts for the first year before it becomes month by month. Don’t let them fool you.
He reaches out later that evening after my day pass and I will attach screenshots. Telling me it was the last day of the 50% off initiation fee (which is was but the very next day they were running a 100% back initiation fee promotion sooooo) and that he would actually wipe away the initiation fee totally. THEN tells me he can do a 6 month contract as that is what I was willing to commit. He calls me on the phone to get my card number and then says he’ll send me the contract and once it’s signed I’m all set.
When he sent me the contract, I OF COURSE read it as everyone should. And it specifically said 12 MONTH commitment. Ways out of this contract were like death and moving really far away. JUST SAYING GUYS.
I emailed him immediately after the contract was sent saying I CANNOT SIGN unless it is revised to reflect our prior conversation.
They like to say things like “you have my word” “don’t worry about it” “trust me”. A contract is a contract. SO the next morning I have a charge for $172. So the membership was in fact NOT 150 but 170.
So I contact Jason. I said I would like a credit back as I DID NOT SIGN or agree to the membership yet. He told me he will give me a 7 day pass to see if I like the gym.... AFTER I WAS CHARGED. When I refused the free 7 days, he told me I HAD 3 DAYS TO CANCEL THE CONTRACT WITHOUT FINANCIAL OBLIGATION.
They signed the contract FOR ME. And giving me a 7 day pass was designed to trap me after the 3 day grace period as per the contract.
I emailed John, the assistant GM and never heard back. I also contacted the equinox support email that has been posted in the reviews by the company and have not heard back also.
Be very careful, and honestly. The gym isn’t even worth what they charge. The only upside is the higher dose sauna in the gym, but it is an additional 40-65$ to use each time anyway. That was the only major selling point for me.
It’s a shame because I love spending money and am really easy to be sold in something I already want. But that’s slimy and they’re...
Read moreThis gym isn't as hyped up as the price tag that comes with it. I agree with Brian, in all of the shower stalls there is mold growing on the shower heads and even where the soaps are held. There is even some type of substance inside of the Kiels products they provide. The caps of the lotion and soaps are always open and full of guck. The steam rooms are horrendous, there's white mold everywhere. The staff are always hawking you and making fun of you behind your back (I know first hand because I sat with a trainer and witnessed her make fun of someone). It's an uncomfortable environment and not as cracked up as the sales advisors make it up to be. The trainers are started with minimum wage and go up within time, most of them are newbies in the game, so why am I paying $150+ a session? You can get more of a professional trainer at Golds gym paying half the price. Let me not mention that the lady who sold me the membership has gotten fired (some of the workers told me it was due to fraudulent reasons) so I still haven't gotten things she promised me (like money back for signing up). She lied and said I would be able to cancel within three months and management can’t help me at all. This gym is a joke and I honestly wouldn't recommend it to anyone, rich or poor. Your better off hiring a trainer and working out in your garage. Definitely NOT worth $161 a month, don't let the shiny floors and fake...
Read moreGreat facility, even better staff. Specifically, I'd like to shout out my experience with Chris and Michelle from the personal training department. They really helped me appreciate the value of getting in a routine and starting that process off with a training package that when broken down per session is very reasonable. I've only signed up for what I can afford initially but it's already proving worth it. Michelle and Chris are super friendly and hard working as is the entire staff I've encountered at this location. I've worked out at a variety of luxury gyms over the last 20 years: LA Sports Club, Equinox, Four Seasons Hotels, Ritz Carlton, etc. - and the experience I've had at Paramus Equinox is really great, particularly because it's small - not very crowded - and of course, has a great team of coaches and administrative personnel who do their job with professionalism and efficiency. I recommend this gym and Chris as you look to hire a trainer. A special thanks to the hard-working cleaning staff who work...
