You can 100% find something elsewhere and be so much happier. Please don’t waste your time giving this place a chance. The Beacon could be a very nice community but with its current management and conditions, I don’t see that happening anytime soon. Our move out process was stressful. I am very disappointed that I was hit with four months worth of water and sewer fees that I thought we had already paid for. The office was not helpful when I called to get clarity on our move out cost. I had to call the utility company to get an answer as to why I was being charged this amount when in my monthly statements, I was paying for water and sewer. As someone who works in customer service, I do not understand why it's so hard for this management team to help their residents and provide better communication. Do yourself a favor and read some of the reviews. You will see this is a constant trend with these people.
The unit itself was poorly designed. We had a water leak in the bathroom that we called maintenance to fix not once but twice. The baseboard by the shower was literally turning brown and mold began to grown. This was repaired and a new baseboard was installed. The second time they painted over the water damage. It took about a week for the fresh paint to start peeling away and new stains started to form. Our dryer (that we had to “rent” even though our unit came with it?) never worked properly and our clothes smelt musty because the air vent was never cleaned out properly. We called maintenance four times to help with this issue and it was somehow never fixed. When our refrigerator went out it took about five days to get a new one. I reported the issue on Friday and had to call the front office on the following Tuesday for someone to come look at the fridge. All of our food had to be thrown away which is whatever but it shouldn’t take that long for someone to come check. We did end up having to fix our carpet which was taken from our deposit. I'm actually surprised that they took the time to clean the carpet before leasing the unit to someone else.
Some of our personal experiences: Our vehicle was stolen from the property and within the gated area. When we approached management to obtain security footage, we were not helped. The only thing we received was a question which was “did you lock your vehicle?”. Months later we received notice that cars were stolen in the area and their suggestion was literally to “park in well lit areas”. They only have two cameras which are at the front gates and there is nothing monitoring the only exit gate. I understand that people deserve their privacy but when there have been break ins, stolen vehicles and stolen packages there needs to be more protection for their residents. We've had an FBI warrant be conducted on a resident. This happened two days after our vehicle was stolen. Multiple instances where the cops were called and one time they were called to the pool. The gates were broken about half the time we lived there.
On top of the personal issues we had, the property is poorly maintained. For all the fees we paid I surely thought that the amenities would be useable. The pool was closed for months. The coffee machine never worked properly. The gym… for at least half of our lease equipment disappeared. I’m not sure if people stole most of these items or what happened. People smoke all the time and everywhere. You do you but when we received many emails reminding the community that the Beacon is “smoke free” you would think something would be done about this. Dog waste was never picked up and was pretty...
Read moreEdited Review from 6 months ago: My husband and I have lived here for almost a year now, and so far we like it. At the beginning, the unit we wanted wasn’t ready yet, so we had to move into a temporary unit for a couple of months. We were working with Jennifer the whole time and she was very helpful; from the moment we first toured The Beacon, to after we moved into our permanent unit, she was great! We enjoy being close to all the food, stores, and parks/trails nearby. The staff are very communicative and attentive through the resident app. We love the pool, even though it took them a while to actually open. The gym is nice and clean. And maintenance is great at responding to service requests. We really have no complaints!
Update (6 months later): Ever since they’ve been under new management, they had us switch to a new rent portal app and have all new staffing. This place has definitely gone downhill. Whenever I have a question regarding the rent price or an unexpected charge on my account, they never respond AT ALL which is really inconvenient. Honestly, there’s no way of communicating unless you call (which they hardly ever answer). The finishes on the units are bad; nothing but bad paint jobs and poor finishes overall. The property used to be well-maintained, and now it’s not. I had a neighbor upstairs who was constantly throwing dog poop over their balcony and onto my driveway for months, which as much as I see maintenance walking and/or driving all around the complex, NEVER noticed it. I called the office and they actually did something about it, which was surprising. Weights from the Building 1 gym have been going missing for months and still haven’t been replaced yet. Not to mention how disgusting the restroom gets in there. Our tools were stolen from our garage a few months back, but we didn’t tell them about it cause we felt like they weren’t going to do anything about it. The fact that they decide to FINALLY close the front gates after being open for 1yr+ is crazy; we’ll see how long these stay closed. Whoever decides to move in, good luck. We will definitely not be...
Read moreI lived in this apartment for two and a half years and recently moved out. While there were certainly some positive aspects, especially like the property manager, Julie, the move-out experience was marred by the actions of one leasing office staff member, Rashonda McLeod.
She had consistently shown a dismissive and unfriendly attitude whenever I visited the office, which I had previously overlooked. However, on the final day, even the movers I hired commented on her unprofessional behavior, which prompted me to leave this review.
When the movers arrived and parked near the garage to load my belongings, Rashonda came out and told them to move the truck to the back of the building, claiming they were blocking another garage. I asked if we could stay temporarily, offering to move the truck immediately if the other garage tenant needed access. She still refused. As a result, the movers had to park outside the gate, which made the move unnecessarily difficult. We also requested that the gate remain open to facilitate the move, but she was completely uncooperative, and the request was ignored. I ended up standing by the door the entire time just to press the FOB so the movers could get in and out. Additionally, while the surrounding infrastructure is convenient, the building itself has serious drawbacks. The unit I lived in had poor sound insulation and recurring water damage issues. For example, water leaked from the ceiling and walls due to an HVAC issue from the unit above, causing damage to the ceiling, walls, and closet. When I first moved in, I had reported poor sealing between shower tiles, but they said it was fine. Eventually, water seeped into the walls, bugs began to appear, and parts of the baseboard started to rot.
Another issue worth noting is that if your unit is located near the dumpster, be prepared for flies to frequently enter your home, especially during warmer months. This was a persistent and unpleasant problem throughout my stay.
I cannot recommend this apartment to others based on how poorly the staff handled my concerns, especially on such an important day...
