I attended a dumpling making workshop with my wife and seven-year-old son. Apple is a charming and knowledgeable host.
The class is really well-organized and broken into parts. First you shop for ingredients at a market in Chinatown. During this part she shared interesting facts about the neighborhood and the Dumpling making process.
Back at her space she kept everyone busy with different dumpling making tasks. After a while we broke broke into groups and each group worked on making dumplings of various shapes with homemade dough and with pre-made wrappers. This gives everyone a chance to experience the dough making process but also to be able to make a really nice amount during the allotted time.
The Space is really beautiful and had plenty of room for a large group. My son was super excited the whole time and Apple did a great job of paying attention to him without letting him dominate the class that was otherwise populated by adults. I cannot stress enough what a great job she did of making everyone feel at home!
Really really fun from start to finish and the final product was delicious! We had enough where everyone there was super full and still had a nice helping of dumplings to take home. I would highly, highly recommend this class...
Read moreI highly recommend this cooking class If you are looking for an out-of-the-ordinary experience and enjoy eating dumplings, this cooking class is for you! I am a miserable cook while my husband is a fabulous one and we had a wonderful time. Unlike Sur la Table or other large scale cooking classes that have specialized kitchen equipment or recipes with hard to find ingredients and challenging instructions, at Dumpling Academy you walk away (with a full to-go container!!) feeling confident in you ability to recreate these delicious dumplings at home. This was a truly delightful time not only because of the food, but because of the people. As a class we learned new skills and we shared our own cooking techniques and you would expect, but we also talked, laughed, snacked on freshly made dumplings as if we were...
Read moreWhat a great time this was. My wife and I took Yins dumpling making class as a Christmas activity with eachother. Yins class is run out of a residential home making this a quaint class which felt like cooking in my home kitchen. Yin greeted us with some dim sum that she made ahead of the class that was fantastic. We then cooked pork and veggies dumplings as a group. Dumplings were made from scratch and using packaged dumpling wrappers. Yin showed us how to cook dumplings both fried and boiled. Folding the dumplings takes a little practice but by the end we had a couple of experts in the group. We also made some chocolate wontons which were incredible. We were happy to leave with full belly’s and a container filled with leftovers. Yin was a fantastic instructor and I highly recommend...
