I was so sad when I heard that Tequilas had a fire as it was literally one of our favorite restaurants for fine Mexican dining and for special occasions. We were thrilled to hear they were reopening so we booked a reservation for my birthday weekend but overall were very disappointed as it clearly is NOT the same restaurant. Inside it looked similar to before the fire but with a more lighter color scheme. Drinks were tasty but the Martini was served in a small glass that looked like it was for a cordial - maybe 4 sips if you are lucky. My Cucumber Margarita was amazing, but the glass was filled to the rim with crushed ice so similar to the Martini, it was done in seconds. Our Guacamole was tasty but no longer made tableside. The one downside, unlike most restaurants, we were given a bowl with only a few tasteless chips which were not sufficient. When we asked for additional chips, we were surprised to see when we received our check that we were charged an additional $3 - REALLY??? My partner ordered their famous Langostinos which are one of the pricier options on the menu. This dish had been our favorite for years. In the past you would receive 4 or 5 large Langostinos. When our order came, we were in shock to see the order only contained 2 Langostinos, a lemon wedge, 2 sauces and literally 2 tablespoons of rice. In turn, I decided to order the Carne Asada which was tasty but was much smaller than in the past (4- or 5-ounces vs 8+) and was grey in color as opposed to being properly grilled. The accompaniments were tasty, but each was about 2 bites. We were both still hungry and decided to order a side order of rice which is normally filling. However, yet again we were given a dish that contained about 4 to 5 level tablespoons or rice which was bland. Literally, the best part of the meal was having the wait staff sing happy birthday to me and my complimentary shot which was the best part of the meal. Lastly, since we were both still hungry, we each ordered their flan which I normally loved. However, although it was a big piece that was enough for 2, it was tasteless and topped with coffee crunch which for Mexican really didn't work. I'm sorry to say that after over a decade of dining at Tequilas, that will be our last time. After spending almost $200 on dinner, we both left hungry and disappointed. If Tequilas is trying to become a high-end restaurant featuring smaller portions focusing on the quality and experience, then they missed the mark!!! I normally do not write negative reviews, but it this particular case I thought it...
Read moreI was happy to get back to one of my favorite spots in the city this past weekend. We were going to see a show at the Academy and this was a perfect location to grab a bite to eat, a few cocktails, and then head to the show.
My wife had never been and it had been a few years since I was there so I was hoping it was as good or not better than I remembered. And it was just as it has been. Service is always top-notch there and there are so many wonderful dining areas inside the restaurant. As it was early in the evening they sat us in the bar area which is nicely decorated.
They go all out on the decor, and there is a lot to see and take in. You always get some chips and salsa to start things off, and they are very tasty. Some pico de gallo and some salsa to mix things up.
We started with the Queso fundido with chorizo and man that cheese is tasty. And ooey and gooey. The flour tortillas were soft and warmed up nicely. This was a great way to start things off.
I tried a couple (4) of their cocktails and loved each one. Two I can name, are the Colina and the margarita diablo. I like a spicy drink and told our waiter this, and he said "Hold on, I have something for you". I wish I knew the name of them but always ask the staff and they can make what you are looking for.
My wife went with the chicken enchiladas, and I chose the enchiladas de playa with shrimp, lobster, and crab. They were so good. The sides were great too, including their refereed beans and rice.
We needed to try the churros for research purposes to see how they compared to the best in the world (in the One and only resort, CSL), and they were great a close second. All in all a pleasurable meal and a great start to a...
Read moreTequilas is, without question, my absolute favorite place in Philadelphia. I’ve been coming here for almost 15 years, and not once—not once—have I had a bad experience. They can do no wrong in my eyes.
The atmosphere, the food, the decor, and the staff are truly the best of the best. There’s simply no place in Philly that tops it. The hospitality is extraordinary—genuine, warm, and consistent. You won’t find a nicer or more attentive team anywhere. Dino, David, and the whole crew truly make every visit special.
I was thrilled to return after the fire and see the stunning renovation. The space is even more beautiful now, yet it still feels like home. Just being back in the building last night, sipping “The Short Rib”—one of my all-time favorite cocktails—was a joy. I do miss the mezcal version, but honestly, Tequilas makes the best tequila-based cocktails around. Period.
And let me be real: they could setup a monthly subscription for payment in advance—that’s how confident I am in this place. It’s always clean, always perfect, and always worth it. This is five-star dining, no question.
To anyone complaining about prices or the lack of a happy hour—don’t. This isn’t a budget spot. It’s a premium experience. If you can’t appreciate that, just don’t go. Respect the level they’re operating on. And if your food isn’t what you expected TELL THEM and they will fix it IMMEDIATELY. Don’t write a bad review when you haven’t given someone an opportunity to fix the problem! That’s just immature and irresponsible - to those people please grew up and be an adult.
Wishing Dino, David, and the entire team nothing but continued success. Love it...
