Bluemercury — Local services in Portland

I used to love this store and always had exceptional service on every visit, tonight… not so much. I did arrive just before closing (y’all close at 6pm most weeknights, wild??) and didn’t even realize it until I tried to open the door and it was locked. Mind you, it was not 6pm yet, is this the normal practice for this business?? There were 3-4 employees standing behind the counter. One (with very short hair) begrudgingly came to open the door for me. “Are you already closed”, I asked? “As long as you know what you want and can complete the transaction in 1.5 minutes, I’ll let you in”, she replied. I did know what I wanted and exactly where it was located. It was an almost $200 CE Ferulic serum that I had gone out of my way on my commute home to pick up. I walked over, grabbed it and took it directly to the counter. The same extraordinarily rude woman said, “I’m so ready to get out of here”. “Clearly”, I replied. I paid and mentioned that I bet I had beaten her 1.5 minute requirement. There was no apology for the rudeness, she just walked me to the door so that she could “let me out”. No thanks for coming in.

I will think twice about giving this place my business. Too bad, since my wife and I spend hundreds on skincare each month and have just gone back to SkinCeuticals. No matter, I’ll find somewhere else to purchase where I’m appreciated. Things are far too expensive these days not to be treated with kindness and respect, especially when making what would be a repeat purchase many...

I am a fancy (but functional) skin care addict. (As you should be)

I came in looking for a gift for a friend and a new facewash for myself. I was particular about glass and no plastic (or very little) and Arturo was able to show me several different options.

I told them I needed to research them and come back when I'd figured out which one to get and none of them batted an eye.

Fast forward to a week later, I ended up getting the Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser and Nest candle for a friend's birthday!

I felt both were luxurious and a reasonable price.

I think there is something for everyone here and suggest you go and check it out.

It looks like there is a spa of some sort on site as well which I'll look forward to...

After finding out that Nordstrom stopped carrying my "dark" shade of chestnut Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Power (+ stopped carrying other brands with darker shades), I also found out that Sephora also only supplies it online. I am so happy that this store carries a full range of colors! Not everyone in Portland is pale and white. Thank you for being inclusive and not making me shop online when I need...
