The Gift Exchange policy is ridiculous! I understand this is a tough time for retailers but the way you get people to shop at your stores is by treating customers with respect. I received a Xmas gift from a family member, tag still on, and simply wanted to exchange for the value of the gift. They would not exchange the item without a receipt and asked me to call the person who purchased the gift and get their credit card number? How embarrassing. When someone picks out a gift for you, you don’t want to call them and ask them for their cc #. I wasn’t asking to return it. I wasn’t asking for even the retail value as they were having a sale. It had the tags on and it was in the store, it wasn’t something you could purchase from another retailer. This is why I personally shop at Nordstrom’s because they treat their customers really well. You would think in a time where retail is becoming obsolete stores would try to keep customers happy so they continue to shop, or even win over new customers. I was actually planning to spend additional money while I was there, but was completely turned off by the entire process. I wasted time and money driving there to be treated like I was crazy. During Xmas you might want to give some grace and allow people to make a...
Read moreTerrible customer service from the downtown Portland location. Thankful that the online store was more than willing to assist with my exchange. My daughter and I visited the Store to exchange a few things we had purchased online. All was going fine until they realized the item I purchased had a coupon used for it. I was exchanging for the exact same item just one size larger. One of the sales associates was very helpful and started to do the exchange and the other associate interrupted our transaction and told her the two week time frame for the coupon was untransferable. I wasn’t aware of a time frame. I had purchased the item mid January. I will never return to that store. Customer satisfaction and service is not their top priority at the Portland location. How is it that when I called they were very helpful and apologetic from the...
Read moreI recently visited the Free People store in Bridgeport Mall. I had found several items online that I liked, but wanted to try them on prior to purchasing. The staff was very friendly, but the store didn't have any of the items I had liked online. I described several of the pieces (specifically the grey and white "swan" sweater the the sweatshirts with ruffles) and staff was not familiar with them. They suggested I go to a larger version of one of their stores. In the cosmic scheme of things, I found this mildly frustrating. From a broader perspective, I am 73 years old and despite the general youthfulness of Free People merchandise, I appreciate that there are usually a few items that work for my age...
