Review for Chef's Favorites Dinner 3/12/19 (This was a special menu for this event only, not representative of the daily menu, though the inventive approach and quality ingredients are constants here) What happens when you put yourself at the mercy of a couple of Portland's best brewery-driven chefs?... And what happens when they get to cook all of their favorite foods in one night? In a word, BLISS. Amid expert pairings by lead brewer Jake Harper, Deschutes' delightful intentional sours, clever beers, heady barleywines, and a formidable & bright Black Butte Whiskey set the perfect tone for all six courses of the Chefs' Favorites dinner experience. Tonight's decadent repast featured such highlights as monkfish, sea beans, peppered lamb and strawberries, nitro-frozen Rose petals, rabbit confit, kiwi mousse and fiddle head fern... you really couldn't go wrong, but you might not have suspected just how right it would be. Executive Chef Jil Ramsier and her team at Deschutes Brewery's Portland Public House understand the genius in letting fresh local, seasonal ingredients shine while not being afraid to try new textures and combinations. I should have known what I was in for, Jil has been one of my dearest for almost 20 years, but sometimes you've just got to shake your head and say wow! Jil, Tofer & Jake... Thanks for a great meal!

Absolutely amazing. We called ahead and were told it was a roughly ten minute wait but when we arrived, we waited maybe 45 minutes. The host staff were very polite and welcoming. Our waiter was quick and kind (I hate that I forgot his name!). He knew we drove straight from Seattle with two small kids and we got our appetizer super fast. The meat and cheese app was to die for and was served with pickled garlic and veggies. For dinner I had the crab roll and OMG it was the freshest, cleanest crab I've ever had. I can't say enough good things about it! As we were about to pay, our waiter informed us that our meal had been paid for by a regular. Apparently the regular saw us waiting and decided to pay for our dinner. I am in awe by the kindness of the regular and the staff here. On the way out, the waitress asked if we were the lucky ones who got our meal paid for and she showed us the gentleman that did that for us. My husband I are both veterans and have had meals paid for us before but only in uniform. It was a surreal kindness to happen to us and it truly made our short trip amazing. This will stick with us for a while and we hope to pay it forward. We will be back!

This restaurant and brewery was a surprise delight for a late-night traveler! I travel all the time and unfortunately find it hard to find good, high-quality food late night, but was amazingly surprised with this place! Not only is the beer amazing (I'd recommend trying the sampler tray to taste some of the top suggested brews you can't purchase normally and are very tasty), but the food is very high quality and even healthy, especially for a brewery. I ended trying the quinoa burger (and I'm not a vegetarian) along with the tomato soup. The soup was so fresh there were little chunks of tomato, parsley and other delicious seasonings. The quinoa burger so surprisingly delicious with very fresh ingredients, amazing seasonings and a delicious sauce. It was so good I'd order it almost any trip, even though I absolutely love meat. The service was great and whether you are a single traveler (like I was), or with a large group, the atmosphere and socialization will make anyone feel welcome. I will definitely be going back the next time I visit Portland and I would highly suggest it if you like great beer or fresh, high quality and even healthy bar food.

I recently raided this fantastic American-style brewery, and this masked marauder is pleased to report it was quite the smorgasbord indeed! The elk burger was so juicy, tender, packed with flavor, & accompanied by the crispiest golden fries. The pumpkin ravioli made me almost forget I was a raccoon and not a fancy food critic. The mushroom linguini's rich and earthy aroma took me back to my forest foraging days as a young kit. A pint of Resolution Krusher Hazy IPA made for a refreshing palate cleanser between samplings of each scrumptious morsel. This cavernous cask house had a cozy cabin vibe and a welcoming staff, so I didn't have to sneak in. Overall, I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a place that has it all! My only minor critique would be that the ravioli was fried slightly longer than preferred, & the pasta's portion size was just a bit underwhelming. Otherwise, there are no major complaints about the food's quantity or quality. I'll definitely ditch my next dumpster dive & be scurrying back for more tasty treats. Next time, I'll be sure to bring some bandit buddies along with me for a proper feast!
