I have been recommending Dogtopia Pearl District for all of my pet parent friends since my sweet "Stu" started attending last year! Each staff member we've interacted with are all incredibly kind people, and they truly care about each and every dog that comes through their doors. Stu attends daycare regularly, and he absolutely loves it. As soon as we pull up to the front door or day "daycare", he gets so excited and can't wait to run inside.
The facility is clean, spacious, and at least one trained staff member is always keeping an attentive eye on the dogs. There are separate play areas for small and large dogs, which ensures that every dog is safe and comfortable. The staff members are so knowledgeable about dog behavior and quick to intervene if they see any potential issues. When you become a member at Dogtopia, you have access to the webcams for all of the dog rooms, so you can keep an eye on your fur baby at all times and I am always so impressed with how the staff is able to monitor the dogs and even detect when a dog needs "a break" from all the playtime.
One of the things that sets Dogtopia Pearl District apart is their commitment to providing individual attention to each dog. They take the time to get to know each dog's personality and preferences, which allows them to tailor the daycare experience to each individual dog. Stu loves running around with his furry friends and the staff always makes sure he gets plenty of exercise and attention.
Recently, we needed to board Stu for two weeks while we were out of the country. While we missed him so much, we were so happy to have Dogtopia Pearl District watch him, ensure he was eating his foods and taking his medication properly, and loving on him as much as we do. While Stu is a friendly, easy-going dog, he experiences digestive issues from overexerting himself. While he was boarded, the Dogtopia fam collaborated every day to monitor Stu and even pull him out of the playroom a little more often so he could have the time to rest. This extra attention was super appreciated, and the staff never made us feel that we were a bother.
Additionally, Dogtopia Pearl District offers spa services (bath, nails, teeth cleaning) and even offers optional "themed days" where you can make a small donation to give your dog a tasty treat like a pumpkin treat, a special lunch like chicken and rice, or even get their photo taken with a special backdrop. For Christmas, one of the lead staff members dressed up as Santa and took photos with the dogs. They take multiple photos and add them to their Facebook account — super convenient and I love having so many professional photos of Stu!
Overall, I cannot recommend Dogtopia Pearl District enough. If you're looking for a safe, clean, and fun environment for your dog to play and socialize, this is definitely the place to go. The staff truly goes above and beyond to make sure every dog has a great time, and we are so grateful for all that they do for Stu to make him feel confident,...
Read moreWould you entrust a beloved member of your family to a dog daycare that appears to be operating without a valid license, as required under the Oregon Revised Statutes and Multnomah County Animal Services Ordinance Sections 13.150 through 13.153? We assume most responsible pet owners would say no. Unfortunately, we recently discovered that this business is doing just that--operating without the legally required animal facility license.
In November 2024, we enrolled our AKC-registered dog, into what we believed was a licensed and approved dog daycare facility under the oversight of Multnomah Animal Control. After experiencing significant service issues, we contacted the company's corporate office. The representative who returned our call acknowledged that the location was understaffed and not delivering the level of care and service that had been advertised.
In April 2025, a staff member mentioned that our dog had become overstimulated and had been crated for the entire day. We discussed our concerns with the staff at that time. Then, during the week of May 26, we were contacted again regarding his behavior. We requested access to the video footage from the Toybox area, where he had been placed with other dogs. Our request was denied, and we were not given any information about the other dog allegedly involved.
On May 29, we were informed that our dog was no longer welcome at Dogtopia due to an alleged incident. When I picked him up, staff promised that someone from the company would follow up with us regarding a refund for the unused portion of the prepaid daycare services. As of today, June 17, 2025, we have received no further communication.
On May 30, we were contacted by Multnomah Animal Control. During that conversation, we were informed that this business is, in fact, operating without the required dog daycare license. I again reverified this information on 6/16/25. We would have never entrusted the care of our dog with this business had we known this...
Read moreWe've had to move cities unexpectedly twice now -- so I've had a few doggy daycare experiences. After a month of sending my pugs to Dogtopia, I can say it's an excellent experience, where the staff is attentive and friendly, relate helpful information, and my dogs come home happy, socialized and tired. Absolutely recommend this place.
First off, if you're concerned about anything doggy-daycare related, or new to it -- I highly suggest reading the excellent article "The Truth About Dog Daycare" by Fern Dog Training. She visits doggy daycares for a living, and rates them -- and explains layout, interactions, etc. (E.g., "It's pretty normal for some dogs to stand around -- they're still getting socialization!"; "Don't stare at the webcam all day," etc.). She even explains that it's like sending a human kid to school, where they may pick up a cold, or get a couple of bumps (as a mom, this is a relatable analogy). It's an even-keeled and data-driven read and it helped me a ton when choosing dog daycares.
That said, I love that I can peek at the dogs on the webcam and see that they're at least hanging out a bit and getting good doggie socialization (our last daycare didn't have webcams!). The staff has always been super responsive when I have a question on text or when I call. They're super close to us, and I love that I can drop off/pick up anytime (even on weekends!) without having to give tons of warning (this is very new to me and I love it!).
Sometimes the lines to pick up/drop off are long, but this has been true at every daycare and it just requires a bit of patience during rush hour. But that's a small thing, and my dogs now run to the door at Dogtopia -- even my elderly girl, who just enjoys sleeping near the other dogs. So happy my dogs have a little "third space"...
