I’ve banked with UCCU since I was old enough to open an account. They’ve been great in every other way except when I was trying to get a personal loan. I have excellent credit and everything on my end was great. I got all of the documents needed to complete the loan in a timely manner. It took 2 weeks to close on the loan. No one ever called to follow up with me or update me. I would go days without hearing any status update and then I would be the one to call in and ask for an update and all they would ever say is “everything is ready and should be finalized today or tomorrow morning!” And then the day would go on and the next day would come and still nothing. This happened several times and every time I would call I would get someone else who wasn’t my loan officer and they would tell me she was unavailable. I just kept getting emails sent to me every day saying i needed to sign documents to complete the loan and the document I would sign was the SAME each day! Turns out, every time I sign and the loan doesn’t get submitted by the loan officer within that day I signed, I have to sign AGAIN. So I would sign and my loan officer would never submit it. I finally got a hold of her and she said “I promise, promise, promise that before I leave work today (Saturday) I will have this loan finalized and this will be the last time you have to sign!” So I gave the benefit of the doubt and signed again and waited.... Saturday went by with nothing. Monday I waited all morning and didn’t hear a word. Didn’t even get a new document to be signed. So I called again and spoke with someone else and told them how frustrated I was. She promised me she would send the document ONE more time and I would have the money within 5-10 minutes of signing. I signed. An hour goes by and still nothing. No one calls to follow up. So I call back AGAIN and speak with someone new AGAIN and he puts me on hold for 15 minutes to go talk to my loan officer and comes back telling me the loan is finally authorized and submitted. Are you kidding me? It took 2 weeks. TWO. WEEKS. For NO reason. EVERYTHING was squared away on my end. It was insane and ridiculous how little a priority it was to my loan officer and everyone else. And unbelievable that no one, not ONCE followed up with me. I was always the one to call in to keep the ball rolling. What a joke. I will never be applying for anything through UCCU ever again. I’m almost tempted to close my account with them. It was a simple personal loan that should have taken 2 days to complete TOPS. Don’t do any loans through UCCU. Read moreUCCU seems to be going down hill fast. I've previously thought highly of them but it seems like they are not wanting to adapt and improve and it definitely shows in in a number of areas, such as their online banking portal, their customer service, and their inability to compete for business against other credit unions or even banks. They seem to have become increasingly uptight and restrictive and mistakes are being made on a regular basis. All of my interactions over the past 2-3 years with their employees have been negative when they were easy opportunities to provide a very positive experience and build loyalty. One particular experience with a girl named Brittney and then with Todd Kelmer left me in awe of how little they would do to make things right when issues with their system led to a big miscommunication of information and an employee error. I discovered that funds were transferred by an employee of the bank (Brittney) without my authorization, then I wasn't notified about the situation until 10 days after it had caused an issue when I should have been notified immediately, if not at least as a courtesy. All I was told is that they can't be responsible because by law they didn't have to do anything. Who says things like that and expects to keep the confidence of their customers that they provide great service and that they have your best interest in mind? Not the vibe you get from more competitive and well run organizations. Part of what happened very well may have been illegal but it's not like I'm going to go hire a lawyer to fight them over something small like that but its just one example of the type of experience and the nature of the interactions that I've had with UCCU over the past few years. Needless to say I'm planning on closing out my account and I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually went out of business because a lot of people I know are sharing similar experiences. Read moreI have been with UCCU for many years and finally have had enough! This place is an absolute joke! I applied for a home loan with Linda Nichols at the 800 South Orem Branch, and she was very unprofessional throughout the whole process(even when I go in there for daily transactions I feel like some teenager is helping me.) Linda miscalculated my info multiple times giving me inaccurate information. She kept bringing up options that would cost me more and would be horrible idea but might close the loan faster here and get her paid faster. To top it all off, she ordered an appraisal without any approval and then after we had told her that Mountain America could much more for us and had their head on straight, she tried to charge us all of these fees. I talked to 3 different lenders which is how I could compare here to the others I worked with who were above and beyond.
On another occasion at the Provo Stadium branch, went in to pay of an auto loan and had to pull teeth just to get a memo stating that the loan was paid off. They said that it shouldn't be needed, even though that is what my loan officer at another institution required for my home loan. Again, if your looking for a piggy bank than these guys might get you by, but if your a responsible adult who cares about his money, and interest rates, and wants a bank that has your best interest in mind rather than their own selfish interests in signing up just another account, or locking you into a poor loan and holding back the savings to up their commission, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN OUT OF UCCU!
