Dinner at R&R BBQ was good. In typical BBQ tradition you order at the counter then you take your number and find your seat. They bring the food to you, which often means it comes when ready and not all at once. They were out of a few menu items when we were there so had to go with second choices. My Mum ordered the #CheeseBurger that comes with a 7 oz. smoked patty, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onions. She chose the #SweetPotatoFries as her side. The Fries are very well done. Good seasoning and sweetness, loved the crispness. My husband ordered the Half Rack #Rib Plate with a side of #MacAndCheese the mac is cheddar forward and very cheesy, a delicious side. He opted for the roll over the hush puppies as he’s not a fan but the roll was small and uneventful. The Ribs were nice and meaty. the meat was tender and moist he enjoyed the Carolina sauce with his meat. I ordered the #ThreeMeatPlate as I wanted to try multiple meats. Unfortunately they were out of the chicken thigh so I opted for the Angus Beef #Brisket #PulledPork and the #SpicyAndouilleSausage the Brisket was nice, moist, decent flavor but not as good as some I’ve had. The pulled Pork was ok too the Sausage was nice and spicy with a lot of smoke. I enjoyed tasting all the sauces with my meats. In order of favorite: I loved their limited edition #CarolinaGold BBQ sauce next I liked the #LessSweetMoreHeat BBQ Sauce. It had a nice mix of Tabasco and vinegar. The #OriginalBBQSauce was ok and the #SweetBBQSauce was least favorite. But all the sauces were good. For my Side option I wanted to try their potato salad but they were out so I tried the #Coleslaw it was a typical cream based coleslaw without a lot of flavor so I added some of their sauce to it which made it better. I’m not usually a fan of hush puppies but R&R BBQ’s are very good. Nice sweet corn bread with green chilies bites, deep fried. The balls were moist and the chilies really added lovely flavor to their #HushPuppies Unfortunately we learned they no longer sale Beer, which was one of the reasons we chose it, oh well, Utah Valley. We did enjoy their unlimited beverage bar, #RedCreamSoda with #dietDrPepper became my beverage choice. Overall R&R BBQ was a good meal with nice clean tables and...
Read moreEdit: The owner reached out to us and went above and beyond in resolving things. We have been back and everything was excellent. I've been here twice. The first time was great and I thought it was my new favorite BBQ place. The second time was really disappointing. We were hoping to bring my parents and family a nice dinner last Saturday after they helped watch our kids while we finished Christmas prep. My husband had wanted to go to a different BBQ place but I convinced him to get R&R because I liked it so much the first time. We ordered 2 family meals. The meat (turkey, pulled pork, brisket, and chicken) was delicious for the most part. The chicken was over seasoned a bit but still alright. However the mashed potatoes (which we ordered 2 large tubs of) were so salty no one could eat them. We also did not receive the 2 dozen rolls or 2 bottles of sauce. It's hard to just eat straight meat without any sides, sauce, or bread so people needed to find other stuff to snack on even though there was extra meat when the other sides quickly ran out. Some of the younger kids only wanted mashed potatoes and didn't end up eating anything since they tasted so bad. The left over meat never got eaten and eventually was thrown away since there was nothing to eat it with. Even though no one complained, it was embarrassing and made me so sad because we really wanted to do something special to thank them. Additionally, we used an AMEX gift card and it charged an extra $35 dollars to it. We were unable to use the rest of the card as we were shopping that day and when we picked up the food, no one could explain what the extra charge was. They next day the correct amount finalized but the extra charge was still pending and not allowing us to use it. The whole thing was so disappointing for me that I decided to go back in the next day to tell them what happened and ask again about the extra charge. They took a picture of the receipt and the extra charge showing up and told me they'd talk to the manager to remove the extra charge and at a minimum refund the items we didn't receive and the mashed potatoes within the next few days. We never heard anything else and a week later the extra charge is still there and there...
Read moreA short story: I was going through a faith crisis. I prayed and felt nothing. I searched for direction and found myself lost in mental mazes - stumbling through every decision I make. I wondered: “God, if you’re really there, why do you allow me to remain lost?” Finally, I came to the conclusion that either God did not exist or that He had no interest in my return to His loving arms.
I continued in this state of numbness and avoidance for 26 months - faking smiles, pretending I was the happiest I had ever been, acting like I had found true meaning in my life. Then, on a gloomy April 11 2022, I woke up feeling like a shell of myself. On a whim, I said a prayer. “God, if you’re there, please reach out. My heart is open”
I was gifted with acid rain.
Me and a small friend group ducked into a sheltered restaurant to escape the rain: R&R barbecue. The smell of fresh barbecue and comfort potatoes turned all of our frowns upside down. It was a quaint and homey restaurant. Through the front door window, beams of sunshine split the clouds and pointed our attention to a pillar of light in front of us: Gage the Server. He was beaming with kind eyes and a soft face.
Almost unintentionally, we ordered the family platter. The food came out immediately in the hands of our angel server. We feasted for hours. The spicy bbq sauce led to sweet, natural conversation and the fresh rolls gifted us with happy, content moments of silence. The moments when you look at your friends and think “I’m so lucky to have you. Each of you”.
Now I’m not saying R&R brought me to Jesus, but im happy to report that I’ll be attending church this upcoming Sunday. No, R&R did not bring me to Jesus. Jesus brought me to...
