There is always plenty of places to park at Meijer. They have the biggest parking lot I have ever seen for a grocery/super store. I feel like half of the parking lot farthest away from the store, could be turned into another automatic car wash, if Meijer wanted to, they already have the drive thru pharmacy and the gas station. If they did have their own Car wash, Wal-Mart and Kroger would be sweating trying to come up with a way to get their own Car wash as well. LoL Any way I like Meijer for more reasons then their huge parking, they have plenty of cart returns, and they look have people constantly restocking the carts. Every time I go they have to cart returns empty and the hallway holding the carts is always full. Never have to walk more than a foot or 2 back in the hallway by the entrance where they keep them. They are always clean and dry too, even on the rainy days. I like how they offer the sanitizer wipes as well. Some places only offer the hand sanitizer, but the wipes can get more then just your hands, I like the wipes so I can sanitize the cart handles, door handles, or what ever I might need it for. Just as an example, I stepped in a ball of chewing gum right before entering the store one day and the wipes helped with that as well. I also like how there is plenty of space to walk freely around the store. I can stop and look at something without wandering if I'm blocking the person behind me from shopping, they have plenty of space to go around and same for me if I'm in a hurry. They also have plenty of space for the employees to stock as they need to and still have plenty of space. They store is always clean, I have never seen anything laying in the floor that shouldn't be. Any time you have a question or need help with something, there is always someone that works there close by. You don't have to go far looking for them either. The grocery side has so many different name brands on food it literally leaves more options to choose from compared to most of stores. Sometimes it's hard to choose with so many options. One example, The spices/seasonings isle, it has a crazy amount of choices and as someone who loves to cook, went to college for Culinary Arts, and still to this day, working in the food industry, almost 25 years. The wide variety of choices makes me happy when I am in Meijer and stocking up the spice cabinet, they always have something new that I want to try tasting and experiment cooking with. It might take me a few different times until I find something it works well with or it might also be something that I don't like at all, either way it's the learning ang growing part, is the way And that's the exciting part, learning something new and always improving and moving forward. Other than the clean store and plenty of parking I'm positive they could use another bathroom for people who have weak/over active bladders. I know walking from the back of the store to the very front to use the restroom was almost a disaster. The travel time and distance by foot is what almost got me. I never saw a restroom near the rear of the store. And by the time I made it back to the location where I was shopping I almost forget some of the things I need, it takes me a little while to remember what they are if I don't right then down. LoL the cashiers working are always smiling and very friendly and the self checkout option is super nice if your in a hurry, or if you want to double check everything on the grocery list to make sure everything was found and made it home with you the first time. I like the self checkout option because it gives some people a faster way to check out, for some people it offers a little privacy on the things they purchase., Depending on the items you...

I enjoy Meijer over the other super markets in town. The store is usually very clean. The store is usually well stocked. I'll go by department in my description. Produce is the best in town. Hands down. They have a great selection and lots of exotic fruits and vegetables. We like to cook Asian foods and Meijer has everything we need. Meat department is good, the islands are organised by animal. Bakery is timely and tasty, not Costco level, but still reputable. Grocery is well stocked with a good variety. It is a good somewhat cheaper alternative to Kroger. Kroger obviously does have a bigger grocery section and does have a bigger selection, but Meijer is still pretty good. Frozen and dairy is pretty decent, it has everything you would need. Electronics takes the back corner of the store. It has a really good photo center. Editing etc. Toys have a good selection also. They have board games stuffed animals and all popular toys. Sports has disc golf discs which is unique in Richmond. I hear botany bay also has it but I'm not sure. They have decent outdoors and sports, not as much a Walmart or Lowe's, but a good selection. The pharmacy is really good. The pharmacist is very competent and the workers are quick and helpful. Good selection of health beauty and medical products. Registers are usually well staffed. Night time is self checkout only. They have really good sales every other week or so. Mperks is their reward system and you can get good deals there. Yes Walmart is cheaper, but customer service at Walmart is terrible and you know it. Meijer staff is always friendly and helpful. The sales at Meijer and Kroger make up for the slightly higher prices. Meijer brands: hit and miss. Some Meijer brand products are better than the brand's, some aren't. That will just take trial and error to learn. Parking is easy. Meijer is also conveniently located near I-75 and is also in the best shopping area in Richmond. If you are travelling, it is located near several hotels. It is a 24hr store. It does have a gas station. It has a garden center, automotive, home goods, and clothing departments; I have not utilized these departments to give an accurate review. They are clean however. Checkout is speedy. I gave 4 stars because the self checkout can be very glitchy at times and occasionally sales are miss marked. Usually the potatoes... Other than that I really enjoy...

I was a huge fan of Meijer until today. Loss prevention searched through our cart as we were checking out, as my husband was bagging our stuff. It would have been absolutely fine, but this individual broke the reactionary gap with my husband, who was very obviously uncomfortable.

My husband asked them very directly what they were doing. They said nothing. No communication at all. In an attempt to de-escalate, I cautiously said the individual was just doing their job. It should have been the employee saying that. They had no uniform, and I did not see their name tag. They could have very well been an unemployed stranger for all customers know. That is a safety concern, and should be addressed by Meijer.

In addition, I know we were profiled based on our clothing. When I go in dressed up, I don’t have to worry about something of this nature happening. I suppose we potentially looked far too poor to be there…? My husband works in construction and his clothing was a bit dirty and worn. I am a local college instructor, and was by no means dressed fancy.

Furthermore, and most important of all, my toddler was sitting in the cart— this employee was far too close to my child, especially without announcing their intentions, than will ever be acceptable to me. My husband did not realize they were even an employee until I told him. I would not have known if I had never worked for a large corporation of this type. I am very familiar with how they operate.

Employees need better training, and should be transparent with customers concerning what they are doing. At the risk of leaving a scathing review, we will not be returning. You should be ashamed for treating your customers like this. I know we’re not the only ones. A preliminary Google search of this particular Meijer’s 1 star reviews makes that quite obvious. There are so many wonderful employees there. It isn’t the entire store, but antagonizing your hard working customers isn’t exactly a good look. Do better.

Edited for additional details...
