I went to Spacebomb Studio a few months back for the Natalie Prass show, and I loved this venue! When I first arrived, I was a little confused since the entrance is tucked behind a shop. I actually worried I wasnāt in the right place. Luckily, the gentlemen checking tickets at the door waved me down and confirmed I was in the right spot (thank you for saving me from wandering aimlessly! š ).
Inside, the space is so intimate and cozy, the kind of atmosphere you instantly feel at home in. Of course, itās a recording studio (duh), but they also host these incredible, small-scale shows that are unlike anything else in Richmond. Naturally, the sound quality is fantastic.
For the Natalie Prass show, we all literally sat criss-cross-applesauce on the floor and just soaked in the music, and honestly, I loved that vibe. Iāve seen photos where they sometimes set up chairs, so if you have mobility concerns, Iād recommend checking ahead to make sure a chair can be arranged!
I was also pleasantly surprised that they sold wine, beer, and a few drink options, not a full bar, but itās a nice touch for a venue that doesn't really have a ābar bar.ā A+ for still going the full mile for the vibe!
Iāve never experienced a concert in a setting quite like this, and it truly felt special. If you ever get the chance to see a show here, go. Itās an unforgettable way to experience any artist you love: intimate, immersive, and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've recorded music in at least a couple dozen recording studios over the years, and I'll say Space Bomb has to be one of the vibiest around. The main studio has a wide open tracking room with a generous array of instruments, amplifiers and audio trinkets. Their staff engineers are excellent. I've worked with Alex DeJong many times and he's a phenomenal tracking and mixing engineer with a dynamic range of capabilities and tastes. The control room is comfortable and stocked with great rack gear and monitoring, the isolation booth next to the control room makes communications with both the tracking room and control room more convenient. There's a pool table in the lounge, and a cool vintage clothing store that you can visit as you walk to the back of the building, which is pretty rad. Space Bomb has a warm environment to write and record professional tracks, and on top of it all, it's owned and operated by great people....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recorded at Spacebomb based on the recommendation of several accomplished musicians in the Virginia and Washington, DC areas. Spacebomb did not disappoint! The studio is beautiful and well equipped with the space, instruments, and creature comforts you need. The staff was supportive in scheduling and hosting the session. Special thanks to Alex for arranging the session and answering all my questions, and to our recording engineer Curtis, who gave us everything we needed and was prepared and supportive in capturing my vision. I couldn't have had a better time and will...
