3 Monkeys Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Richmond

I usually go to three monkeys for their outdoor brunch area and their daily happy hour. However, on Monday July 9th, 2019 a friend and I decided to stop by after lunch for some afternoon cocktails. We ordered a blue motorcycle and the bartender made us an Irish trashcan. I notified him of his mistake and he apologized and tossed the drinks out and remade them. I should have left then but decided "eh, i'm already here might as well have a drink". However , the cocktail he prepared had way too much syrup in it and it was overly sweet. However he went outside for a smoke break so we had to patiently sit and for him to return to alert him of the situation. Instead of remaking it he pours some of the drink out and added sweet and sour, which turned it green and diluted the beverage therefore it wasn't a blue motorcycle. We told him we do not wish to pay since he could not make a proper drink and as we left he shouted "I've been a bartender for three f**king years!" and loudly tossed out the drinks and angrily clinked cocktails around. I found this extremely juvenile and immature and I'm very upset because I generally have a good time at three monkeys. Plus we were the only patrons there on a Monday afternoon and he should be glad he had business since he lives on tips. I wanted to speak to a manager but George was not in duty. I highly recommend going to Brunch, Starlight, Social 52, Sticky Rice, FW Sullivan's, Lady Nawlins, Pearl, Sidewalk Cafe, or any other place in Main St than this establishment. After a good walk around Maymont, we were looking for a good place to eat. Unfortunately, we had a terrible ending to an otherwise decent meal. Atmosphere was nice and good selection of Virginia draft beer. My family, all 8 of us, enjoyed 2 apps and couple beers each. Jumbolya was more like a pasta marinara, but tasty.

Unfortunately, appetizers took 25 min and food arrived just after salads were served. We dealt with that. My sister-in-law received her steak dinner about 5-10 minutes after the rest of us and was cooked medium well/well instead of medium. We all looked at it and agreed. They recooked a new steak, which she had to order medium rare. It arrived 15 min after we finished.

When the $200 bill came, I asked the manager to take the steak off the bill because it was very late and they overlooked first one. Another waitress came over and said we should have paid for 2 steaks instead of 1. She never eat more than 1 steak. She argued that she is not the owner and unable to help us. We were infuriated but had no choice but to take out of waitress tip.

Another waitress chased us out and said "you are never to come back here". I can appreciate that comment if we were rude, but that is not the case here. I hope the owner understands how is restaurant is being managed in his absence. We will never return and we will not...

The fact that I am writing this negative review is very unfortunate because prior to this recent experience I really enjoyed coming to this establishment. After Saturday, June 1st 2019 I will no longer be returning nor spending anymore money at three monkeys bar and grill in Richmond Virginia. From the time we walked in from the time we left the bar we were treated poorly and very unfairly compared to others surrounding us. For example we were not greeted for the first 20 minutes after our arrival and we watched another table sit in the same section and be greeted almost immediately. We then order drinks that take a very long time to come out and not only do they take a long time to come out but once they do arrive they are presented to us very rudely and the cocktail waitress did not even say a word to us, she just slammed the drinks on the table and walked away. Our server seemed to be very terrified of my friends and I so she would not spend more than 2 minutes at the table at a time. We were never able to ask for anything we needed nor checked on throughout our meal. Once the food comes out it’s not even hot and again it’s presented and is in a very poor manner and also took and immense amount of time to come.
