Entire Slumberland experience has been unprofessional and misleading. My significant other (SO) and I purchased two mattresses from Slumberland August 2014-a Stearns and Foster ("top of the line") and a Simmons BeautyRest "Holly." We also bought a base, two pillows, and bed frame. When we went in we were greeted by a salesmen named Ben who was very nice. Ben stated he was newer to the company but was very knowledgable having to check with coworkers on a few things to make sure he was relaying the right information to us. We decided to think about our purchase for a couple days and told Ben we would come back in two days when he would be working again if we decided to purchase the mattresses so he would get the sale. We received a quote which we were happy with. When we went back two days later and asked for Ben, we were told that he no longer worked with them anymore and were being helped by Shawn and Tom. After two months of sleeping on the beds, it was agreed upon by myself and Brian that we both slept better on the Simmons and went back into the store to request an exchange of the S&F for another Simmons Holly along with a rug and requested a refund for the rest (credited back to the card). The gentleman we worked with that night stated he would take down all the information and let his manager know as managers are the only ones who can do exchanges/refunds. When we talked with Ron the next day we were informed that there is only a one-time exchange for mattresses and the remainder will be in-store credit. Unfortunately, we were not informed of this when we purchased these items. In the excitement of our purchase and investment in a "nice" mattress, the sales receipts that we signed were not discussed thoroughly which is partially our, the consumers, fault. No one told us of this refund/exchange policy and we went back and forth with Josh and Ron trying to explain this to them. Had we known this exchange policy we would not have made this purchase. This back and forth went on for two weeks. My explanation to Josh was that the amount of in-store credit that we would have is a lot for people who don't have a lot of money and really don't need any furniture at this time. It would be wasted money as I did not want anything to do with Slumberland after this encounter. Josh then asked why we bought such an expensive bed then. After continous back and forth arguments/discussions, we just wanted to return everything for a total refund and be done with Slumberland, but we were told we were not able to do so. Josh tried telling me that no store in Rochester refunds purchases like this to which I responded one of their competitors did. Josh then told my SO that we could come in and exchange for a more expensive mattress with less in-store credit. My opinion, that is completely out of line. I gave up and told Josh to call my SO. My SO went into the store on Nov. 10 to look at more expensive mattresses. He was greeted and helped by Tom. After going through his whole mattress speech, Tom and my SO went to write things up. When my SO told Tom his name, Tom responded with "Ohhhh you're trying to blind-side me." My SO was told that Josh was going to take care of this, walked away, and called my SO a "jackass" to his coworkers and started talking about fantasy foothball with them. My SO sat there for 25 minutes with 4 salesmen working, MAYBE two customers in and out, with no help. We ended up exchanging the S&F for a more expensive Simmons which neither one of us like. When delivered, the workers did not remove their shoes and it was snowing out. Carpet was wet and is now dirty. Now we are stuck with a mattress that we were pressured to buy because "normally people don't go from top of the line to one that's not" says Josh. Josh then offered the difference between the S&F and the more expensive Simmons as a credit back to us until I contacted the Better Business Bureau of MN who were not...
Read moreUpdate: Slumberland reached out to me after my first review and wanted to "make things right". I was told that he would replace the cushions and the covers and give me a credit of some sort if I would remove my review. I agreed. However, after waiting several months, I was told that the fabric was no longer available so there was nothing he could do except offer a discount on another piece of furniture. After inquiring, he was offering about $300 off another purchase. I was not even remotely interested in spending any more money at Slumberland. I continued to use the fabric shaver to take the pills off of the fabric but eventually, the fabric just became too thin. The $2400 sectional and ottoman are now in the back of our pickup ready to go to the dump where it belongs. I will spend my money where customer service is actually important, not just something you say to get a good review. Be careful: if you have issues with your purchase, it's unlikely you will get any resolution.
Original review: Worst quality piece of furniture I have ever bought. I have never been so unhappy with a sofa in my life. I am not new to Slumberland--I have bought there often over the years. Never again. I had issues with being promised certain things at purchase (free inside delivery), then when it was to be delivered, I was told I needed to pay extra to have it brought in the house. This was resolved, but I am treated in a very cool manner by the salesperson and owner every time I have an encounter. Cushions have a 10 year warranty and have been replaced once but need to be replaced again. The fabric started pilling terribly almost immediately--I was told to buy a fabric shaver (which I did--and use often, but it doesn't do the trick. Also, really? I need to shave the pills off the fabric of my $2000 couch?) I am currently using my old Ikea cushions and bath towels stuffed into my Slumberland cushion covers. I can't wait for enough time to pass so that I can justify going somewhere else to buy a decent sofa. I tell everyone I can to go somewhere else; and not to fall for the "I'm your best friend as long as you buy something and don't expect us to stand behind it." I hate to even give ONE star. Nothing star-like happening at Rochester...
Read moreDo not buy furniture or mattress sets from this retailer. They do not stand behind their products. For example, I bought a leather sofa and "so called” Simmons mattress and box spring set. The sofa started sagging in the middle only two months after buying it...paid cash. The store manager sent out the "delivery man" to examine my complaints...he saw my complaint and stated what they could do for me...no replacement, but would cut the back of the sofa and put more ticking where the sofa sagged in the middle cushion! They never did fix the sofa. I paid $1200.00 dollars for a defected leather sofa. In between waiting for Slumberland manager to get back with me about the sofa...I stupidly bought the generic supposedly "Simmons" mattress and box spring combo. That was another mistake...this time on me. I should have changed my mind about buying it when I saw one of the warehouse workers slamming mattresses and box springs down hard on the floor looking for my brand that I had just purchased. After the mattress was delivered and set up by the deliveryman, I thought all was well. Only to discover about a couple days later, the mattress began sagging in the middle. I only weighed 150 lbs, so why? They never fixed that problem either. I called the store multiple times trying to contact the store manager until I finally got him. He told me that I was on my own and there was nothing he’d do to rectify the defective sofa or mattress and box spring set I had just bought although the furniture was still under warranty. So, please never ever buy anything without putting guarantees in writing from the Slumberland in...
