I honestly can't say enough about my experience at Detour and the atmosphere and environment that surrounds this gym.
When my wife was first admitted to the Mayo Clinic and scheduled for 6 weeks of treatment I knew one of the things I didn't want to let go of was my fitness. I also knew that being surrounded by people in an uplifting environment would be crucial to helping me get through our current circumstances. What I ended up researching and finding was Detour. They fit the description of everything I was looking for and upon some further exploration through facebook and Instagram it looked like it had some quality individuals running the show.
What I came to find was a thriving community led by a team of personable and professional coaches who are always seemingly smiling and encouraging others to be better. Within minutes of reaching out to Detour on Facebook, and sharing a bit of what I was looking for - a gym to workout for a period of 6-8 weeks where I could keep my fitness level up and be coached without having to think to much - I was replied to and encouraged to stop by at my very first chance. This all came from Matt Arnold, who owns and operates Detour, and someone I came to find out is one of the most positive and supportive individuals I've experienced in my time going to different gyms.
Now the gym review - one of my favorite things about crossfit and something I found to be priority number 1 at Detour was the thought that crossfit is for ANYONE willing to sept through that door. Every gym should operate the way Detour does because when you enter into the gym your met with a smile, encouragement and the support of a well trained staff that will help you reach the goals you have set for yourself.
There is no intimidation. There is no side-eye expressions because you can't do a certain move or workout.
There is encouragement, support and the never ending push to help you be better then when you entered the gym the day before.
Beyond the workouts Matt seems to be creating a tribe in the Rochester community and pushing the reach outside of the 4 Walls. While my wife and I were unable to attend the events Matt set up for the Detour crew they seemed to hit the mark with his clients and It sounds like more of the same is on the way.
SO if you're looking for a crossfit gym to push you to the limits (they certainly can and have several top level people working out and training for competitions) I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Detour Athletics. Whether your looking to dip your toe in and just test the waters or push you to that next level of fitness that you feel your on the cusp of Detour would be a great place to be.
I told many people - While I'm not sad my wife and I are leaving Rochester, MN to return home the one thing I will miss are the 3:30 classes at Detour. They gave me 1 hour a day to let my mind go blank and forget about the word Cancer and all the weight the word carriers.
Thank you Detour - you helped me through the 6 toughest...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of joining CrossFit Detour and I can confidently say it has been an incredible experience. From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted with friendly faces and a welcoming atmosphere.
The gym is top-notch, with clean and spacious workout areas that had everything I needed for my workout. The equipment was in excellent condition and the gym was well-stocked with a wide range of exercise machines and weights to cater to all levels of fitness.
What really stood out to me was the quality of coaching provided by the trainers. They were knowledgeable, approachable and had a great understanding of how to help me get the most out of my workout. They took the time to explain each exercise and ensured that my form was correct before adding any weight or intensity. This was especially helpful for me as a beginner to CrossFit.
The classes were challenging but fun, and I left each session feeling stronger and more energized. The community aspect of the gym was also impressive, with everyone supporting each other and pushing each other to reach their goals. It was great to be a part of such a positive and motivating environment.
Overall, I would highly recommend this CrossFit gym to anyone looking to improve their fitness and join a supportive community. The facilities, coaching and community are all top-notch and I can't wait to continue my fitness...
Read moreI travel to Rochester 3-5 times a year for work, usually for 3-5 day trips. I found Detour my first trip out and could not believe I'd found such an amazing gym to drop-in at on the road. I travel a lot for work and finding 'decent' gyms to workout at while on the road/maintain my weekly routine is always a struggle. Detour has made my travels to Rochester feel like home with its warm welcome, ease of drop-in, and ample, CLEAN space full of every piece of equipment I could dream of to play with. Whether I'm lifting, doing stability accessory work, getting in heart pumping HIIT, or venturing outside my normal to play with other movements, Detour has everything and makes dropping-in easy and welcoming. I often will do open gym having my own programming, but I have joined several of their classes as well and purchased some of the programming. In addition to educated and energized coaching, Detour provides various class options for their members (CrossFit, HIIT, BUILT, weightlifting, recovery++), of which I love their BUILT and lifting programs. They also have locker rooms equipped with showers, making morning workouts before work a breeze. I wish Detour was in my home neighborhood as I'd 100% be a full-time member. As it stands though, I always look forward to hitting this gym when in town! Great space, great people, wonderful place to get...
