The BACA center does not deserve the rating it has. People who are not welcomed and snubbed by other members, just do not return. They pay their dues, but receive no services that they want to be a part of. Who wants to be bullied in your retirement years (that's what high school was about). The management at all levels are clueless that some of their members are being treated this way!
The BACA senior center was not a good fit for my Mother. She had a very upsetting experience when she was not allowed to join an event because the coordinator or group did not want her to be there. It seems to me that some of the members of the center act more like high schoolers than mature adults (basically she was bullied).
When I took this issue up to management immediately, a brief discussion occurred but nothing was done to remedy the situation. The coordinator began the game, more than 30 minutes before its scheduled time, so my Mother was not allowed to join the game. My Mother was not the only one pushed away. I sat there and watched 5 other people who wanted to play, but when they saw the game had already started, they walked away.
When management talked to the coordinator ator, she didn't remedy the situation. My Mother paid her annual dues, but did not want to go back there after that. The BACA senior activities are full of cliques and if you don't belong to them you have a very different experience.
Seniors will not write about these type of experiences, but I think that people trying to decide whether or not to join, should know about these types of experiences by others. So today, I am being my...
Read moreI have been visiting the Baca Center for work events for over 5 1/2 years & have always been impressed by the cleanliness, size and the scope of services offered to seniors who are lucky enough to call the Baca Center their local senior center. For the first time today, I was confronted with a member looking for conversation, which happens all the time at the Center because the members are mostly delightful & charming & all strive to make one feel welcome, but the member who wanted to converse today made my blood run cold with shock, despair & finally great anger when he launched into an utterly hateful tirade filled with bigotry, racism hate. It has made me doubt if I would ever want to be a true member of the Baca Center if this man is an example of the type of company I would be keeping. I was shocked that he approached me as he did not knowing me from Adam but just taking for granted that I would want to listen to him spew out his hateful talk! He does not belong in the Baca Center and I am most surprised that he had been allowed to continue on as a member there for I am sure his racism must have been felt by many of his fellow members. My apologies for this response but although it is now hours later from when this happened to me with this person today, I am still rampant with anger against this hateful and...
Read moreI had an event here in april. I had called back in FEBRUARY to add 2 extra hours and put down my aunts name so she could come in and start decorating as soon as the room was available. Of course they didn’t forget to charge me the added 2 hours but they forgot to add my aunts name to the contract therefore she wasn’t able to get started until I showed up. If I wouldn’t have been on time, my event would have been easily ruined for the unprofessionalism. Just like a business demands for the customer to clean up after the event they should be able to honor at LEAST letting my aunt in the room with the party supplies. The person in charge of my contracts name is Anita for anyone calling to book. But I highly don’t reccomend booking here for any events. They also nitpick at how chairs are stacked and how they shouldn’t pinch. Parking is good and size of the rooms are good as well, I’ll...
