I used to enjoy getting coffee or matcha from this little shop, but I've learned some disturbing things about its management that I can’t ignore. The owner creates a toxic work environment for her staff, especially the women. Female employees are forbidden from stretching or moving freely, all because the owner fears it might attract male attention. She has even threatened to fire employees for simply requesting time off months in advance.
What’s more, she imposes strict and personal rules about how female staff should style their hair—not for sanitation, but based on her own preferences. She insists on dress codes that include mandatory bras and has surveillance cameras not just for security, but to eavesdrop on conversations. If staff members express any dissatisfaction, her response is simply, “I AM BOSS.”
It’s troubling that she primarily hires young, impressionable individuals who may not recognize this behavior as unacceptable. This isn’t just a cultural difference; it’s a blatant disregard for employee rights. In the U.S., workers have protections against such treatment, and it’s clear that this owner is out of touch with those standards. I can’t, in good conscience, support a business that operates in such a harmful way. I encourage others to think twice before going here.
Edited 10/31/24: In response to the business’s reply, I want to clarify that the former employee referred to did not have any last-minute absences and was never dressed inappropriately. This denial highlights a concerning culture within the business that permits mistreatment of staff. It’s not just a one-off situation; several employees have left due to similar experiences. This pattern of behavior speaks volumes about the work environment.
Supporting a business that prioritizes management over employee well-being is not something I can endorse. Please consider these factors before choosing where to...

Read moreRight in the heart of downtown Round Rock you'll find the guys over at Mi Mundo roasting some of the best coffee you can find in the area. The owner is always super friendly when I stop by, and clearly knows what he's doing when it comes to both roasting beans and turning them into that beloved liquid we call coffee.
Their take home beans are the freshest you can find in town short of roasting your own, and proceeds from each purchase go towards charity which is always a nice bonus. Furthermore, for a shop of this size they have a pleasant selection of roasts/regions to try. If you need them ground, they're happy to do it, but it's always nice to see their relief and appreciation when you tell them you have a grinder at home (haha).
Another thing that makes Mi Mundo special (at least for me) is that you can order a specialty latte and not expect to receive your recommended sugar intake for the rest of the year. They make drinks that are pleasant without feeling the need to overload you with sweetness, and not having to ask for a latte quarter-sweet, is nice. You presumably ordered a coffee drink so you could enjoy coffee, and that's what's great about every drink I've had from them, the coffee is the star.
I love going to Mi Mundo, and think you would too. Stop by Round Rock Donuts and grab a treat, and then swing by Mi Mundo for a great cup of coffee and you'll be hard pressed to find a better way to...
