Nettles Fine Jewelry — Local services in Saint Augustine

Didn’t buy anything, went in to ask about the cost of remounting a ring with sentimental value to me, and the cost of a few services offered.

Was directed to gemologist for answers to my questions. I started off by asking about pricing for things like jewelry appraisal.

Before I could even finish talking (and get to the main purpose of my visit) he began grabbing and looking and my jewelry. Did give a few options for what gems they could be, but there was a heavy insistence- if not outright statement- that all my jewelry was worthless because it was silver and no good gem would ever be set in silver because it’s so cheap.

He looked at the ring I brought (to ask about remounting) and called the stone glass despite my insistence that it was aquamarine. After taking a closer look he confirmed it was aquamarine but still insisted it was a fake gem because “nobody would put a real aquamarine in a $20 setting”- despite me trying to explain the gem was actually purchased separately and the one thing I knew for a fact was a real (and valuable) gem mounted in silver due to preference.

They were dismissive and the service was rushed. I didn’t get a chance to ask about cost of remounting the ring but I’m glad I didn’t. This poor experience has shown me that I don’t want to trust with a company that has such poor customer service skills.

I wish I didnt have to give the 1 star. Once they have your money they treat you like you are bothering them to have your item repaired. If you call to check on the item they will not even look it up, they ask if you have been called and if not then wait until you are. Checking the status is an inconvenience to the staff that just sit there. The owner made the experience miserable. He did not measure my finger when the ring was bought he just gave it to counter and said go up a half size. It was never measured. I was treated so badly going back in there to be resized and have had 3 diamonds fall out. Ceasar did an amazing job getting my ring to fit perfectly, finally. My ring was fixed 3 times with me sitting in lobby waiting for it, directed by Ceasar, to then have a staff member rudely tell me today that NO REPAIRS are done in under a week. This place is horrible! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!!!! After reading other reviews, I need to go have my ring appraised when I get it back.
