Not pleased with the experience I had today. The assistant store manager is lacking in the service and support areas of the job. Purchased an open box computer. No problem open box is fine they check them out first right? Well it was placed into a different box because it was returned without one. Also stated that it had no keyboard or mouse also missing the documentation also no problem I can deal with that. I get home and there was no power cord. No power cord with a Lenovo Pc creates an issue it's not your typical power port. So this is when I return and meet said Assistant Manager what a guy no eye contact didn't even look at me. Did not talk to me I guess all the information he needed was received by the associate. After trying to get the computer to boot up for about 5 minutes it finally lights up (he has a desk top plugged into a laptop charger). After it powers up he attempts to connect the device Via DVI port. Without any luck with this he then goes to the other end of the desk and plugs it in with the HDMI boom there it is. So my thought is one of the ports is in non working order but he skips right over that. He disappears for a few minutes and I see him come back ringing something up. When he returns to where I'm waiting he hands me a knock off insignia laptop charger and tells me that he will not charge me for it due to My misunderstanding of there open box policy which I have used many times in the past. So the solution he came up with was to blame my understanding of there policy as well as give me a generic charging cord for a laptop again I purchased a desktop and basically walk away. Thank you Best Buy you have lost my business should save me some money. O and by the way the cord he gave me was supposedly $60 the open box item only saved me $71 you would think that he would have offered replacement of the item but again no customer...
Read moreEDIT: From 3 stars up to 4 stars. Recently I have seen a shift in Best Buy, they have started to carry a better selection and are a lot more competitive on pricing. If you know what you are looking at I feel comfortable recommending them. The Best Buys in Kansas City still tend to have better selection but it also depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for employee assistance/recommendations do your research before hand and take everything with a grain of salt, some of them spew garbage because they want to seem like they know what they are doing and some of them actually do know what they are talking about.
Original Review: Lets start off by sharing I work in IT so I am somewhat knowledgeable about items in the store from a technical perspective. Yes they are usually over priced on computers, components and pretty much every product. Yes their selection is not as good as other best buys let alone other electronics retailers. Yes half the staff is not the best in either a technical or social aspect...but there are a handful of very nice and very helpful employees at this location (although hit and miss). They do have some good products through out the store if you inspect closely and/or get one of those golden employees to help you. But for most people the products here will work. If in fact you are more advanced or need something very specific I HIGHLY recommend Micro Center in Overland Park, KS (Kansas City) They have very knowledgeable staff (coming from an IT Tech), great selection and are usually cheaper than Newegg or Amazon (and I think they may price match). As far as Best Buy is concerned though, this one is good for quick things or if you don't want to drive but I prefer Best Buy's in KC more...
Read moreLet me start off with that I absolutely love best buy as a whole. The St. Joe store, however, is a disappointment. It is very small and what they carry can be found at walmart, khols, or target. I went there to purchase a tv. They were quite busy with a truck they were putting away. (Pre black friday). I do not have an issue with the fact I was there for approximately 1 hr to get a tv. I do have a problem with the lack of knowledge by the associates. It was like nobody could answer questions about the tv's and explain the differences between models. I patiently waited and finally found a tv I liked. I bought an open box which was geek squad certified to guarantee to have all the parts. After I got it home I found it didn't contain the screws for the feet. Im not mounting it on a wall so I needed the screws for the feet. I went back the next day on my lunch break and explained. I was told they could discount it further, or return it for a new one. I went home and got the tv after work and back to best buy to exchange it. I wasnt told I would be paying the difference because the tv was an open box and a sale price. I was furious, it was such a run around, there 3 times just to end up the way I started out, looking for a tv. I ended up going to the K.C. store off of Barry Road. Had a wonderful experience there. The associate didnt have all the answers off the top of his head BUT he was able to find them and used a "cheat sheet". I dont know why it wouldnt be a standard to have those resources available across all best buy stores. All in all, in my experiences the St. Joe location has a poor selection, untrained staff, and poor management to see over the things...
