I've been a comic collector well over 30 years. I'd heard about Harrisons..just never made the trip.
Very glad I took a chance..
My nephew and a coworker of mine accompanied me as they were hobbymen as well. Upon entering? Overwhelmed doesn't even come close to the experience.
This place is HUGE!
Its like a department store for comics..from dollar bins..to recents..back issues for MILES and even hard to find variants..overall im sure together we spent well over 300.00..and this was AFTER we stopped at another comic shop in the next town
.....so why only 3 stars??
I could tell that some of the workers were uncomfortable..
My nephew had a ring from the previous store we were at ( they not only were having a half price sale but they gave out free stuff.. the ring was one of the free items.
"So...are you gonna pay for that ring?" My nephew smiled and responded that he received it for free at another store (mind you you have to walk past the front register to purchase one of Harrisons as they sat in a bowl at the front door...
When it was time for my coworker to check out (he brought some expensive statues and some other things..) another young man (seemingly frazzled for some reason says) " well I just need to know where these are going!"....I repeated "Thank you" over and over again and that it was our 1st time (we drove from Canton) as they looked obviously nervous.
My coworker and friend paid for his stuff and after taking a few cards we left.
Both my nephew and friend/coworker were upset. My nephew looked at me and said "and you wonder why I dont go anywhere" Unfortunately Im used to it. Nevertheless it was a quiet ride back to Boston
Guys a word of advice?
Not everyone that looks like us is out to get you. Some of us love the hobby and have money to spend. Salem is a beautiful town and Harrisons is an amazing store. You may have had other situations in the past dealing with people but you cannot treat everyone the same...its obvious and hurtful. If you're guessing my age Google The Charles Stuart Case....How we were treated in Southie only just 40 or so years ago...Not by Millenials at a Comic Shop
Its not what you say guys...its how you say it.
We decided to give you all another try in a few months. Hopefully we'll have a...

Destination for comic fans with fabulous staff.
It's very well organized. Behind the counter in a glass case, there are very expensive/rare/wow Comics. Behind the counter along a whole wall are some very impressive wall comics, grails, first appearances etc.
There's then about 20 bins of silver bronze nice comics. Underneath those are the same amount of boxes of independent comics. The shop caters to all diverse cultural interests, but they really lean into this with their Comics. So for instance, the Star Wars section with toys, figures and so forth has about 12 comic boxes along the ground for the comic fans. Likewise, TV related figures children's figures have the animated and younger readers Comics and therefore you sort of have to navigate your way. Exploring and discovering where Comics you might like are - of course there are ample staff and repeatedly I was helped with some of my most obscure wants lists items, but it's delightful to enjoy that Discovery yourself. They then have a huge amount of back issues. I took photographs to try and demonstrate it's tens of thousands, IMHO. I also found three boxes of Dollar Comics and found some comics in those boxes - if there was one thing I would request it will be more Dollar Comics because I love finding bargains.
And a store this big it can accommodate. For instance, about 40 boxes of magazine sized comics and magazines which was brained because I picked up some comics journal and amazing Heroes and it's just so much - I ran out of time. I had to go for the train back to Boston and I could have spent another few hours in the shop.
The staff are lovely, they had a pajamas day which was brilliant and colorful and was allowing personal flair and individuality really shine and everyone's really nice. A lot of younger, vibrant, engaged, intelligent people working in this shop, while they're really helpful, experienced people complimented to create a...
Read moreEvery time we visit family in the Salem area, we make sure to stop at Harrison's Comics and it’s always a highlight of the trip!!
This visit, we were lucky enough to be in town for the Gundam Tournament, and it was absolutely fantastic!! The staff downstairs created such a welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable atmosphere. Nelson in particular stood out, he was working so hard yet still managed to keep everything running smoothly while being upbeat, kind, and a genuine pleasure to interact with!! His energy really made the event epic!
Even the local gaming group was amazing. It can sometimes feel intimidating to play at shops as non-locals, but everyone here was open, friendly, and excited to chat and even trade cards with us!! That kind of community vibe is rare, and it made the experience extra special!
As a fun bonus, we grabbed a few packs of One Piece cards just to support the shop, and ended up pulling a $500 card! Talk about good karma.
This shop has incredible energy, wonderful staff, and a community that makes you want to come back again and again. Harrison’s is truly one of those places that leaves you smiling long after you leave. We’ll definitely keep coming back every time we’re...
