UPDATE: I initially had a frustrating experience with the service at evo SLC, which I detailed in the original review below. However, I’m happy to report that the team, especially Lindsey, the store manager, went above and beyond to make things right.
They acknowledged their mistake, provided a full reimbursement for our skis, and even offered a discount on the bindings as an additional gesture. Lindsey also mentioned having a discussion with their staff about the policy to ensure this type of situation doesn’t happen again, which shows their commitment to improving. I truly appreciate their effort to turn the situation around, and this demonstrates great customer service and retaining us as a loyal customer.
While our experience started off rocky, I’m now satisfied with how it was resolved. Thank you Lindsey and team for taking the time to address the issue and make it right!
ORIGINAL: We were thoroughly disappointed with our experience having ski bindings mounted at Evo. We brought in two brand new pairs of skis-Moment Wildcats and Armada ARWs, and made it clear to the technician, Lars, that both should be mounted at the factory-recommended position. While the Moments were mounted correctly, the Armadas were mistakenly mounted in the freestyle position. Despite us providing a receipt confirming factory mounting for both pairs, someone at Evo altered their system records to cover up the mistake and then misrepresented the situation to us.
Evo did attempt to resolve the issue by suggesting we remount the Armadas, but we declined, as remounting compromises the structural integrity of the skis. The industry standard in such cases is to replace the skis with a brand new pair. While Evo offered a $400 credit toward a replacement, this didn’t fully cover the cost of a new pair because our skis were last year’s model that was out of stock. We ended up paying an additional $400 to get a new pair, which was disappointing given the circumstances. This resolution failed to address the hassle of returning the skis, losing valuable ski days during our vacation, and the fact that we preferred the top sheet design of the original model.
Although Evo refunded the cost of the binding mount, the overall experience was exhausting and miserable. Hours of back and forth communication with their service technician, which started with professionalism, ultimately ended in curt and dismissive behavior. Throughout the process, we felt like Evo was trying to nickel and dime us instead of making a genuine effort to take responsibility for...
Read moreI had the most stellar shopping experience getting new snowboarding boots and bindings. The associate who helped my boyfriend and I, Mark, was nothing short of exemplary. He was friendly, personable, knowledgable and his customer service was top notch. I came in looking to try on 32 Lasher Double Boas, and I was lucky that they had them in stock, in several size options. He was very thorough during the sizing, explaining every step of the way. The fact that I went up a half size when I stood up was a detail he pointed out and made sure to provide both half size options and talked about the benefit of adding a foot bed to the set up. Even though I was pretty set on getting the Lasher boot upon arriving to EVO, as they are known for having a wider boot, which is what I was looking for - Mark offered an alternative option, the Ride Hera's, which are also known for being a wider boot. One of the other benefits of the Ride Hera's is how the second, lower boa adjusts more to prevent heel lift. And when trying on both boots side by side, I definitely could notice the difference. To my surprise, I ended up leaving with the Hera's. Heat molding and a free pair of ski socks were included, which was a wonderful addition to the experience. My boyfriend was also looking for new bindings and EVO only had in stock one of the two models he was looking for. Again, Mark gave honest, thoughtful, and expert advice and we ended up getting new bindings too!
As someone who runs and manages a retail (wine) store, it was incredible to experience the type of customer service I expect in my own store, when out and about shopping for myself. Even though I don't live is SLC, there is no question that this will be were I go for gear anytime I am in the area....
Read moreWorst boot fitter in America! I made an appointment to fit a new pair of ski boots. I put in some notes about my foot size, skier type and ability level so the boot fitter could think ahead about some options for me. I arrived five minutes early for my appointment. The store staff had no idea where their boot guy was. 20 minutes later they call the guy at home and wake him up (this was at 11am). He showed up about a half hour later, so about an hour late for my appointment. He hadn't read my notes so we started from scratch. He had me try on a couple boots, but they didn't have much in stock in my size, so we had to order some and set up a second boot fitting appointment. Fast forward two weeks. The boots we thought would work for me arrived at the store and I arrived for my appointment early again. Store staff again had no idea where their boot fitter was. Not sure if it was the same guy or someone else. They called him at home and he told them he was to sick to come in... Didn't bother to call in and tell them though. So the store staff wandered around asking if any of the workers could "help me with ski boots". I didn't need help shopping for ski boots! I had an appointment for actual boot fitting. They sent over a guy who was both obviously stoned and totally disinterested in helping me fit the boots. His advice was to go ski the boots straight out of the box and "see how bad it sucks." Pass. One note here: if you buy boots from Evo and ski them even once then they're used and not returnable, so pretty rotten advice for more than one reason. There are many good boot fitters in SLC and around Utah. Don't make the same mistake I did. Skip Evo SLC and go to an actual...
