My family of 3 ( Husband, Myself and 6 month baby) have stayed here twice in the last few months. Our first visit was in October and we were SO Impressed! We checked in and were warmly welcomed. We were given a parking pass to place in our car and given the low down on all the hotel features. We were told not to hesitate to ask about anything that might make our stay better. Our room was nice and cozy. Kind size bed, comfy chair and clean bathroom/sheets/ towels. Our night went smoothly and we even had the manager call our room phone and leave a message asking if we needed anything. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic. Eggs, waffles, sausage, cold cereal, muffins/pastries and many drink choices. I would give our 1st visit 5 stars.
2nd visit was this past weekend. Hotel was more crowded due to holiday season and everyone wanting to come to SLC for the shopping and lights. When we checked in clerk was not rude but it wasn't a warm welcome. We were given no parking pass and not even told what floor we were on. Just handed a key and told we were all checked in. Our room was comfy and clean and I have no complaints about it. However we noticed that the floor we were on was full of very noisy neighbors. It was early afternoon so I figured everyone would quiet down as night time came. We went out and enjoyed the sights of SLC. We came back around 8 and found that we had forgotten to bring our Pack n Play for our child to sleep in. We called the front office and asked if they had roll away cribs. They said they did and would send one up. 40 minutes later there was still no crib. We called again and my hubby made the mistake of saying "Our roll away bed has not arrived yet." The clerk on the phone immediately snapped that they did not do "roll away beds". My husband said her made a mistake and meant "Crib". The clerk said she would call housekeeping but had no idea of a time frame it would arrive. We got our crib at 9:30.... 1.5 hours after requesting it. The noisy neighbors I hoped would quiet with the night did not. I understand that this is not the hotels fault when people are noisy, however the noise was pretty bad. I have never stayed in any hotel and had such a noisy night. Around 10 my husband went down to the lobby to see if they had a room on a less noisy floor or if there was a curfew time that people we required to quiet down by. The clerk said that the hotel was booked and that they couldn't control the noise level people made. Once more the clerks were not down right rude but simply did not seem to really care. We made it through a noisy night and checked out the next day. When asked how our stay was my husband explained about the noise and we were simply told " I'm sorry to hear that.". This stay was a 2 star visit.
I think it honestly depends on the staff the night you visit and the crowd level of SLC. I understand that the hotel can not make people be silent, but I had hoped they might have found away to keep the noise level manageable for those with small children and not interested in...
Read moreThis was a great place to stay! The desk staff were really great to help us get a quiet room on the top floor. They gave us complimentary bottles of water as well. The lobby was open and clean, and the snack and hot drink stations were well stocked. Our room had two queen beds, a fridge and snack racks, and a coffee pot with complimentary coffee. We didn't eat breakfast here this time, so I'm not sure what foods were served or how that meal was.
The room was really clean, and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. Instead of a closet to store the ironing board, iron, hangers, and a stand for suitcases, this room had a curtained off area along one wall. There were three sections of rods in this closet to hang clothes and store travel items out of view, which helped keep the room looking tidy. There was an extra blanket on the top shelf. The window had a rolling light-blocking blind that covered the window opening quite well, and it also had a semi-sheer curtain with a long pole attached at the top to glide the curtain closed. The overlap of the curtain and the curtained closet blocked any light from that side of the window. The bathroom had a bar of face soap in a tray to wash hands and, of course, faces with, along with a bottle of hand lotion that was attached to the countertop. The shower had bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash attached to the wall. The one thing I didn't like was that there was a locked door between our room and another room. If I came with more of my family members, the attached two rooms would be perfect. But, in our circumstance, we preferred not to have that door or its occupants, accessible to our room. So, I followed advice from online and twisted a hand towel between the door and the security bar, and tied it closed in several places with hair elastics for extra security. We also put a rolled up towel next to the main door to block light and muffle hallway sounds.
The pool was on the bigger side, and the area around it was really clean. Next to it was a gym with nice equipment. We didn't use the pool or gym on this trip.
I didn't get many pictures of the lobby, hallways, or our room on this trip, but I have posted those I took.
I highly recommend this hotel to all who are traveling to Salt Lake City. It's close to all the fantastic areas and eateries in downtown as well as some canyons that are great to explore. I will definitely stay here the next time I'm in Salt Lake City for business...
Read moreI booked a room at this Hotel while in flight to the city ( thanks Delta for the free in- flight Wi-Fi)!
If It were not for the fact that I hold a Hilton Amex card, I would not have stayed at a Hilton property in this city. All of the Hilton properties are old. This particular Hampton Inn was build in 1996 and renovated in 2016. The Hotel age shows!
When I landed I opted to take public transportation to the hotel. TRAX is the light rail system for the city. There is a station directly outside the airport, which is very convenient. There are several machines that allow you to purchase a ticket for the light rail. I paid $5 for an all day pass! This price is amazing! In order to make this work, you do have to do a little walking, however, it was not bad to me.
When I arrived at the hotel I was allowed to check in early. I was given two bottles of water and a choice of two snacks- I opted for the nuts. The front desk staff was ok. The service was decent, but nothing to brag about.
My room was on the second floor. When I walked in the first thing that came to mind was dreary. The room is very basic. While thee was a large window in the room. The room still felt dark and a little depressing. One thing to note is that they don’t have a closet. Instead your iron and ironing board are behind a curtain. I guess they had to get those items in somehow.
Amenities: The Hotel has an indoor pool and a fitness center. They also serve a hot breakfast.
Location: When I was purchasing my Trax ticket the staff was worried about me walking alone in the area. I told her I was from Atlanta and homeless people don’t scare me. I can confirm that the area does have a decent homeless population . There is a park across the street where it appears they like to congregate. Additionally, instead of advertising this as downtown, I would say it’s on the outer edge of downtown. While I was able to visit several places in the downtown area utilizing TRAX, if you are not a fan of walking I would not suggest this hotel.
Overall I was not a fan of this hotel, and would NOT stay here again. However, it’s a decent hotel, if decent is what you...
