Bamboo Spa — Local services in San Diego

I will never recommend this place to anyone. My husband and I called in to set an appointment for a 90 minute massage. The lady told me that the price was 180, however if I paid cash she would drop the price to 150. Upon arrival they had us pay first, which I've never done before but okay. Once we're in the room they didn't even close the door. We heard the lady at the front desk receive phone calls and talking on the phone on speaker. At one point we even heard her gagging really loud. It maybe sounded like she was trying to spit something out, I don't know but it was not fun to listen to while trying to relax. At some point the music even stopped playing. The oil was cold and the lady who was massaging me was massaging so fast. It wasn't very relaxing. It was more like a rub down. No pressure points or working knots. At one point she just started scratching my feet. Really weird. Once the massage was over, my husband and I said thank you. We didn't intend on tipping because of how bad the service was. We believe tips are earned not obligated. When we said thank you and tried walking out the lady who massaged me asked how we were paying. We said we already paid at the beginning. She then said, "for the tip, you need to tip." Then she pointed at a sign that said pretty pretty please tip. We felt pressured so handed her a 20. She looked at it and said, "that's it? That's not enough." Then pointed at the sign again. My husband is too nice and just handed her another 20 expecting to get change and she didn't give back change. Just rolled her eyes. At that point we just left. But this place was the worst massage place I've ever gone to. Left a bad taste...

A friend recommed the Bamboo Spa as and excellent place for a good and affordable deep tissue massage. I was very impressed! The location was convenient, clean, nicely furnished, but the high points are the staff! The desk clerk was friendly, helpful in explaining the options on type and duration of massage. I can highly recommend both Cici and Wendy! These women are amazing therapists! Both are excellent at deep tissue massage. I'd been biking in the morning and strained my back and calves! After my massage I felt 1000% better! Kudos to The Bambo Spa. Included in my last visit was a complimentary hot stone treatment and the heat and pressure was delightful! Prices are very affordable! Please don't forget to tip! These ladies work very hard and are worth...

Massage was okay, 50 mins spent solely on the back. I have never written a negative review before for anybody..

Biggest problem was the staff did not speak very good English, which I understand because I am not American too. But due to this I was offered "30 minutes more" which sounded like as in "30 minutes left of massage". They need to be more clear. I didn't tip well due to this, and the lady asked "Is this for the both of them?"

There is a sign saying "$15 for good, $20 to be happy" Felt that tipping a certain amount was an obligation, instead of tipping being due to satisfaction/good service.
