Over the past two years, I have had electrolysis with eight different electrologists in San Diego. I saw several of those electrologists only once due to cost or proximity reasons. I saw a couple others for a longer period, but eventually had to look elsewhere because they either left or closed their practice.
For me, electrolysis was the way to go for permanent hair removal, as laser was ineffective. Despite being a good candidate for it, my face saw little to no improvement after nine LHR sessions, each spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
With electrolysis, my hair became noticeably thinner after a few months of treatment. Even so, progress was slow -- although, to be fair, I was doing one-hour sessions every 3 weeks on average, and took a six month break in between. Right before I started electrolysis with Trisha, I was still shaving every 3-4 days.
In any case, when I first met Trisha in March 2023, she gave me a clear treatment plan of doing a one-hour session every two weeks. I stuck to this plan and was going in frequently enough that I hardly needed to shave at all between sessions. After a couple months, we reduced those sessions from one hour to 45 minutes, and have now extended the time between treatment from 2 weeks to 4 weeks. I haven't touched a razor since June.
What I've come to realize is that in order to get effective results from electrolysis, first and foremost, you need to be frequent and consistent with your treatment. Your electrologist's skill is also important. Among all the electrologists I've had perform electrolysis on my face, I found my results most noticeable during my time with Trisha. On one hand, that was to be expected, as I was going in more often, but Trisha was also very efficient, able to get a full clear every session. Her prices are reasonable too.
In my experience, it is not difficult to find someone in San Diego to do electrolysis. There are plenty of options for you to choose from. However, there are several electrologists in this area in particular that I would recommend, and Hidden Gem Electrolysis is one of them. It certainly lives up...

I have always been hairy. It's been a major source of insecurity. I've done nearly all kinds of hair removal methods (wax, sugar, etc.). As I got older, I started growing thicker and coarser strands on my facial area due to my PCOS, and resorted to getting threaded and/or sugaring. It always grew back thick no matter what, sometimes getting ingrowns and PIH as a result. I was resigned to the fact that this was the reality of my situation. I never really considered electrolysis at all (nor did I know what it even was) until my esthetician recommended it.
I chose Hidden Gem based on its price point and it matched my availability at the time. During the consultation, Trisha was extremely upfront, explaining the procedure, process, the hair growth cycle, and the aftercare. She has a very relaxed personality, which puts me at ease. She also did a demo on me, which helped me understand the pain level. I started booking weekly 1-hour sessions for every week; nearly a year later, I'm decreasing my session times and booking every few weeks.
This is honestly one of the best things I've ever done, and I wish I had done it sooner. Finally, a permanent solution for my lifelong burden! Trisha is so thorough, treating each and every individual hair. It's very tedious, but the work pays off. The results have been amazing; my skin is smooth again and there's been no regrowth! By having consistent appointments, following aftercare instructions, and maintaining a good skincare routine, my PIH and scarring has faded near completely. It's like nothing was ever there!
I will not sugarcoat this: electrolysis HURTS. I have generally good pain tolerance, but my first time was intense that I was crying and flinching nonstop. Luckily, the stinging pain never lingers, and my tolerance has improved. There's a reason why I keep returning in spite of it all. Trisha is so skilled and will work wonders. If you embark on the journey, just know that consistency and maintenance are key. The results are...
Read moreRun, don’t walk over to Hidden Gem and get those stubborn, unwanted hairs zapped. I’ve had annoying chin hairs forever. It’s always been so embarrassing. I hated it. It caused breakouts too because I have curly hair. I’ve done tweezing, waxing, threading, you name it. And that stuff just isn’t good for the skin. I needed to find another way. I’m a black woman and I was hesitant to go for laser since I’ve heard that it’s sometimes not as effective for people with dark skin, and the hair might come back. I decided that was not an option I wanted to try. Last option was Electrolysis, which I read is for sure very effective and works for my skin type.
I came to Hidden Gem for a consult, very nervous about what to expect. Trish was so kind, explained everything in detail and answered all my questions. I was very comfortable with it. She even zapped a few hairs to ensure I would be ok with how it felt. It wasn’t bad. Felt like a light pinch. Prices are reasonable. Appointments are easy to book or reschedule. Fast forward to several months later—my skin is clear and I barely think about the few remaining hairs that pop up on my chin anymore. They are so light and thin now which is a sign I’m almost done. Yay! I will say you must be consistent with it, especially early on. Schedule your appointments in the frequency recommended and you’ll be on your way to being hair...
