Cute store, except I felt like I was being watched intensely when I went in. I was just looking around and taking my time when the owner's mother was staring me down. When I tried to smile at her, she barely gave me a smile back. I'm sure she was trying to see if I was stealing but she wasn't watching any of the other customers in the store like this.
I've come to this store quite a bit before but not enough to be considered a regular but everytime it's just the owner herself, I feel welcomed and get friendly vibes but I definitely did not get that this time.
Also, the mother said she could hold my stuff at the front of the store for me, which is pretty standard for this store, except they usually did that before when I had an armful of stuff. This time, I had a singular, small item. I really hate to say it but I am Hispanic and look it and I'm not sure if that affected her attitude towards me.
I only give it 3 stars because I've had generally good experiences at the store before this, but I don't really think I will go back because I felt really uncomfortable this time. I genuinely love the owner and how nice she is. Her mother just doesn't seem as friendly and she seems to be there quite a bit. The value of the clothes is amazing and you can't get that anywhere else. Selection can be a little limited, but there is always something...
Read moreWhat is there not to love?! First of all, you get the WARMEST welcome from Ryker (a dog) and Jess. This little place is the sunshine-iest spot in San Diego with their enthusiastic hospitality. I cannot get enough of them. Secondly, it’s a plant studio AND thrift shop. Here’s what’s great about that. 1. Thrift shops are for digging a little and finding some serious treasures. The shop is small but it is jam packed with treasures and Jess has so many donations coming in she restocks constantly. There’s great stuff. You can find really cool thrifted containers to plant your plants in too! 2. This brings me to my next point - Jess is so knowledgable about all the plants she sells. A lot of it (all?) is propagated plants that she does herself. She has all different ranging sizes but the smallest sizes are so dang cute. She gives great instructions on plant care too which I would be lost without.
DID I MENTION JESS IS THE BEST? I can’t remember how I stumbled upon this place but I kind of don’t want others to know about it because I want it all to myself. However, I figured it’s better for Jess and the shop if I shout out from the rooftops how...
Read moreIf you have never been here, you MUST make the time to go! I went for the first time Saturday, 2/19/21 with my son. There was a small wait as the shop is quite small (cozy) and only 4 shoppers (or friends, as the notice outside says ♡) are allowed in at one time.
There is a rack of clothing - women's and men's- and the price is $2 a piece! For all of it! I found a super cute dress and my son found a great hoodie. Also, sprinkled throughout the shop are grab bags for $3 each. It is a paper grocery bag stuffed with goodies. Some are clothing and others are miscellaneous treasures. My son purchased a clothing bag and I purchased a treasure bag. They have TONS of items! Well worth more than $3!
Last, but certainly not least, they have TONNNNNNNS of plants! A great selection of various succulents as well as other types of plants. And they are so reasonably priced!
All in all, it was a great time. We each walked away with several new treasures. And we will be back. My son remarked how nice Jenn was and how willing she was to share her knowledge of plants.
If you have never been, this is...
