I've been powerlifting on and off for the past several years on my own, and my personal results have been really, really lackluster for someone who is at the prime of their life and really young. I decided I needed to find a personal trainer close by if ever I was going to make progress.
After searching around, I found Iron Orr Fitness, and I explained my situation to them through the form they have on their website. Within the next business day, I got a reply back and was given a complimentary session with Brett Wheeless to assess my goals, my strengths, weaknesses, and everything else.
Jump forward to right now, and I am still with Iron Orr and am going to stick with Brett for as long as I possibly can.
Brett has been nothing short of an excellent trainer. In our first few sessions together, he has done everything to fix so much of my technique on all 4 of the major lifts, including:
Strengthening my glutes and stretching/strengthening out my hip muscles (to fix my hip alignment that was causing me to have a functional leg length discrepancy) Fixing my deadlift form so that I do not hurt my lower back on heavier weights Fixing my bench press form to ensure that I never tear my rotator cuffs Adjusting my overhead press form so that I get more shoulder activation and ensuring that my lower back is in a safe position on every rep And much, much more...
Where has he been all my life? With his amazing guidance and support, my numbers on my lifts are going up now, and I no longer feel the discomforts that I've had in my lifts from years prior. He's just really good at what he does, and I can't thank him enough.

John was genuinely invested in supporting me through my physical fitness journey without the slightest form of judgment. He helped me understand how my body worked and what factors affected our fat/muscle ratio. He also helped me plan out my daily meals and track my calorie intake and even provided science-backed suggestions to help me with my sleep. He was extremely patient with me while still holding me accountable and allowed me to get the best workout I possibly could in every session. I was able to safely learn work out techniques I have never tried before. John also took the time to make every session interesting and really helped me stay motivated. Moreover, he was very easy to talk to and I always looked forward to our sessions. Over time, my confidence grew and I became much healthier both physically and mentally.
I highly recommend John as a personal trainer. Anyone can show you how to work out but John takes personal training to the next level. Read moreI have been training with Brett Wheeless for just over two months. I'll divide my review into two parts, one of the gym and one of Brett specifically.
Gym Review: I really like this gym compared to others I have tried. The equipment quality is very high. One can tell that they put effort into maintaining and servicing the equipment so that it is safe and clean. Their offerings span the full range of equipment and I've never found myself in a situation where I was unable to do an exercise due to lack of appropriate equipment. The gym is small compared to larger chain offerings, so if you go during the pre and post-workday rush hours, you will probably find yourself having to wait.
Review of trainer Brett Wheeless: I am very pleased with the quality of personal training from Brett. Before starting training, I was a gym novice and very insecure with working out in the gym. In addition, I have a back condition that makes several exercises difficult or impossible. From the beginning, Brett has factored this into my training plan and so far I have been very pleased. I physically feel myself getting stronger with improvements to my posture, balance, and overall energy levels. I look forward to continuing to train with him!
