EDIT: Thanks to our community manager, Joyce, we were able to find a solution to our parking issue. We really appreciate her help in resolving this matter!
Note: This review is in regards to touring and leasing. We're excited to join this community and will post another review about what it's like to live here after we've settled in.
The touring experience with Lola was fantastic! She did a wonderful job showing us the amenities and allowing us to take our time viewing 5-6 different units as well as showing us a model unit. Our experience with her made the decision to apply super easy. Unfortunately, we did not experience the same level of service and care from the rest of the team after our application was submitted and handed off.
Relative to our experience in NYC and San Diego, the application process was very involved and lengthy. They set an expectation of 72 hours, but it took well over a week to hear back from them despite us doing our part within an hour or two of receiving their instructions. There was so much miscommunication and back and forth between the on-site team and the team who reviews applications. To give you a better idea, we applied for the apartment on 2/28 and a lease was not signed until 3/13. I can't tell you how many times we got the same email to complete a step that had already been completed. Because it felt so disorganized, we requested confirmation from the team a week prior to our move-in that we were all set and they did in fact confirm that we were all ready for move-in. AT 4 PM THE EVENING BEFORE we were scheduled to pick-up the keys to our new apartment, we received a call telling us that they needed 3 additional documents from us or they will not be giving us the keys to our apartment. The tone of the call was not in any way apologetic but rather put all the blame on us for not giving them something they never asked for. We're not sure who dropped the ball here, but calling us at the last hour with virtually no time to contact other businesses to obtain the documents they are requesting is incredibly unprofessional and inappropriate. Thankfully, we already had 2 of the documents we needed and only had to scramble to get 1. We sent those items over and requested another final confirmation. They responded the following morning - the day of our move-in - and we were ultimately able to pick up our keys. However, this was a very frustrating and stressful situation for us that could have been completely avoided if the communication between the two offices were not so disorganized.
Lastly, I feel it's important to mention a HUGE pain point that we've already encountered: the mismanagement of parking in this complex. Parking spots are pre-assigned to units, which means that plenty of residents who have EVs don't have an EV charging spot and residents without EVs have reserved EV parking. The apartment we decided to rent was assigned an EV parking spot. The other apartment we were considering did not come with EV parking, but we were told we could be added to the waitlist if we chose that unit instead. Move-in day comes and we go to park our car in our assigned EV spots only to find out that neither of our spots are for an EV and there are no chargers nearby. We brought this issue up to Ben, who said they would look into it and get back to us right away. Because we had a good experience with Ben and Lola, we did not expect to receive such a poor response from the manager (Brandon, maybe?) who we were told essentially said "oops, well, it is what it is". We were then informed they have created a first-come, first-served charging system to replace the waitlist and that is now our only option. We understand that there was some kind of oversight here and don't wish to blame anyone, but the fact that there is no accountability being taken for this error which was a major factor in our decision to rent this specific unit and no intention to fix their clearly faulty parking assignment system is incredibly disappointing.
Hoping our experience goes back up...
Read moreSHOUT OUT TO LOLA! Perfect representative to guide us around and assist during the entire application process. My husband and I were touring another property from Garden Communities and that rep actually recommended this apartment complex to us after hearing what we wanted. I was skeptical at first because of the price compared to other properties but we were sold after our tour.
Making an appointment to first visit was kind of difficult as it was via email (I tried calling but nobody answered then requested they just call me to schedule but we ended up just emailing back and forth). I hope they streamline this process in the future.
Tour was great and showed us both properties in order to decide which apartment we wanted. We loved the idea of being the first people to move into our Jewel apartment and loved the layout more than the other property next door. We applied and reserved it for 72 hours but I heard them tell another customer that a hold can be for 21 days (sometimes longer it just depends on the day to see what they are offering).
Application process was smooth EXCEPT FOR THE RENTERS INSURANCE PORTION. The deposit and lease state it needs to say that the apartment complex is “an additional interested party” on our policy. This confused the USAA rep so they added them as an “additional insured”. In the end all they needed was the policy for us and LUX as a requestor on the policy email. This is SUPER SIMPLE for the USAA rep to accomplish but their wording on the deposit and lease make it seem like they need something else added to the policy. It was actually very frustrating as I had to call USAA literally 5 times to try and resolve. Don’t worry, Lola knows this so hopefully nobody has to struggle like I did in the future.
I’ll update my review as I live here a bit longer but I’m excited for the Pilates classes (signed up for next week) and using the gym, pool, and bar lounge! Looking forward to...
