The USS Dolphin stands as a testament to the ingenuity and bravery of submariners throughout history. As you step aboard this decommissioned submarine, you're immediately transported back in time, surrounded by the steel walls and intricate machinery that once operated deep beneath the ocean's surface. The tour guides, often former submariners themselves, bring the vessel to life with their wealth of knowledge and personal anecdotes, offering visitors a unique insight into the challenges and triumphs of life aboard a submarine. Navigating through the narrow passageways and cramped living quarters, you can't help but marvel at the sheer determination and skill required to operate in such confined spaces. Each corner reveals another piece of history, from the control room where vital decisions were made to the torpedo tubes that once held the power to change the course of a battle. Interactive exhibits scattered throughout the submarine further enhance the experience, allowing visitors to get hands-on with the technology that powered these formidable vessels. From sonar displays to periscopes, these exhibits offer a deeper understanding of the complex systems that made submarines such formidable adversaries. But perhaps the most striking aspect of the USS Dolphin is the sense of camaraderie and sacrifice that permeates its every corner. As you listen to the stories of the men who served aboard her, you gain a profound appreciation for their courage and dedication. It's a humbling experience that leaves a lasting impression, reminding us of the sacrifices made by those who have served their country beneath the waves. In conclusion, a visit to the USS Dolphin is more than just a journey through naval history—it's an opportunity to step into the shoes of those who risked their lives in the pursuit of duty and honor. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a military buff, or simply curious about life beneath the waves, this remarkable submarine offers a truly unforgettable experience.

I knew virtually nothing about this vessel until I stepped aboard and looked around. This submarine set impressive dive records at greater than 3,000 feet (the actual capability remains classified). As a single compartment vessel, it really was an all in proposition. As a tall fellow I found this boat really tight and constricting. I cant imagine being at great depths for long periods of time. I think that makes it a great place to visit and see how explorers have lived to get to the depths of our oceans. Access is included in the Maritime Museum pass.

USS Dolphin The deepest diving submarine in the world, it is her unique, extreme deep-diving capability that sets her apart and has continually placed the vessel at the forefront of undersea naval research during her entire career of 40 years. In November 1968, she set a depth record for operating submarines that still stands. The USS Dolphin (AGSS-555) was decommissioned in 2007 and is now a museum ship at the Maritime Museum of San Diego, California. Visitors can climb inside the submarine and learn about its deep-diving capabilities.
