Good candy, poor service. The candy selection is good but my interaction with the older woman working there, who I believe is the owner, is why I won't go back. Her tone was abrupt, unwelcoming, and strangely judgmental - it felt like she didn't want me in her store from the moment I walked in. After making a mixed bag of candy and also grabbing a pre-packaged bag, I asked to try 1 specific candy to decide if I'd additionally get a pre-packaged bag of it. Before I could finish the question, she abruptly snapped "we don't do samples." Ok... totally understand that as a general policy, but seemed a bit unreasonable when I am asking to try 1 thing (not generally sample around), and when I'm clearly buying multiple items. There was nobody else in the store, this was not going to set a problematic precedent, etc. I ultimately decided against the mystery candy bag and also put back another bag I was holding as I didn't appreciate her fake-friendly abruptness. Poor customer service cost them 2 sales today, so hopefully she rethinks her business strategy and attitude for the future. The young girl working there was sweet and clearly embarrassed by the...
Read moreI tried this place and the vibe was terrible from the beginning. The woman at the register maybe was having a bad day, maybe?, not sure. She was abrupt when I asked her questions about the candy and seemed to want me out before I even said anything. After buying two small bags of candy, I asked about some licorice that indicated it had an intense flavor. I asked if I could try one (keep in mind, she'd already prepped two bags of other candy that I was buying). She simply said, "we don't normally do that" with an intense abruptness, and then she did it reluctantly. And, it was just okay (stale), but she made such a big deal that I felt compelled to buy a small bag (which I then threw out). Then, when I saw they had chocolate, and asked about one, she just blurted out, "dark or milk?!", clearly irritated. Normally, in a situation with such a bad attitude, I'd just leave, but I believe in supporting small business, even if that small business lacks professionalism and a positive attitude, IF THE QUALITY IS GOOD. I won't be going back, mostly because the quality was below mediocre. That woman's crappy attitude just made it a solid,...
Read moreI recently visited Giddy Candy Shop, and it was a wonderful experience! This locally owned store has a fantastic selection of nostalgic candies, the latest Swedish Gummies and unique treats you won’t find in big chain stores. The chocolate covered dried cherries and amazing. Mary, the owner, is incredibly friendly and eager to offer recommendations, even letting me sample a few items before purchasing.
The shop itself is charming and well-organized, making it easy to browse. I especially love the Holland Mints behind the counter where there is a wide array of chocolates. Being an avid candy fiend I’ve visited many of the candy shops in the city but Mary’s Giddy always pulls me back. She has made custom candy bags for several of my events and they are always a big hit! I also noticed that they now sell jerky from Jeffrey’s Natural Pet Foods for your 4 legged friends as well.
If you’re in the area and have a sweet tooth or want the freshest selection of candies Giddy is definitely worth a visit! I’ll be back soon to try more goodies. Cheers to small business owners helping to keep SF’s...
