So far so good! I’m Dr. Shin’s current patient, seeing him for an ongoing knee injury resulting from a slip and fall at work. This is my first (and hopefully last!) workers’ comp (WC) case and I’m super thankful Dr. Shin agree to take me on, as it’s tough to find good doctors open to workers’ comp patients.
I’ve seen Dr. Shin twice in San Francisco (April ’25 for initial eval; May 2025 MRI reading) and once in Burlingame (June 2025 PRP injection). The offices aren’t fancy, but they’re fine enough. Most important are the people. Dr. Shin is personable and communicative, gentle (a PRP injection is not for the faint of heart) and precise, and I feel confident I’m in good hands and that he has my best interest in mind.
Dr. Shin’s team (both in SF and Burlingame) is terrific. I’ve worked the most closely with his medical assistant, Aaron, and Aaron is fantastic and friendly and a great communicator. WC is notoriously slow and they love to say no, but Aaron and his associate Hannah worked hard to appeal the initial WC denial for PRP and they achieved success. It’s so important to have people fighting for you as you move through the WC system, and I hit the jackpot with this team.
Verdict is still out on whether the PRP injection is going to help alleviate my pain and symptoms, and Dr. Shin is helping me find a foot and ankle specialist for my ankle injury (again: my best interest in mind), but this review is for my experiences thus far with Dr. Shin, his team and his offices, and for their commitment to my well-being. For all that, I...

Read moreAfter a severe meniscus root tear, I was told by a different orthopaedic surgeon, at another hospital, to have a somewhat risky, not guaranteed root repair surgery. I'm in my late 40's with arthritis in my knees, and I had some doubts that this would be best, so I went to Dr. Montgomery for a second opinion. Thank goodness I did! Everyone on staff was helpful. Between the front desk, the Physicians Assistant who examined me and spoke with me at length, and Dr. Montgomery looking over my MRI, I got the best possible care. Dr. Montgomery expressed doubts that the surgery would be successful at my age and arthritic condition, and that was more likely to make my arthritis worse. I don't want to jinx it, but one year later, with physical therapy and modified activity, my knee is doing very well and I have resumed most activities I love, including yoga, biking and even a little running. I am so glad I came to San Francisco Orthopaedic for a second opinion. I feel like they helped me dodge a bullet and to begin the process of getting my knee healthy and my life back! ...
