Believe the negative reviews. I was sorely mistaken when I believed my experience would be different based on my initial contact with the company.
I did excessive research before purchasing my vehicle. SHIFT provided the best option for a vehicle in my price range. While in the purchasing phase, my representative answered my phone calls on the first ring, my emails within minutes and was eager to assist me in any way possible. Once I signed for the car at delivery, customer service completely disappeared. It is impossible to get anyone on the phone.
I received the car 2 hours after expected delivery, at 10pm. It rolled off the delivery truck with squealing brakes - the driver refused to take the vehicle back, so I was forced to sign for it in as-is condition. The following morning, I drove it straight to a mechanic for checking.
The car was sold to me with known brake problems (excessively worn brake pads, damaged rotors, and a broken cable), bald tires and electrical issues. The car had not had an oil change in so long that the car immediately started screaming about oil pressure issues and advised I turn off the car to cool it. Every few miles this warning was occurring - it's impossible to drive to work when every 10 minutes, you're pulling over on the freeway to turn off your car. Less important was the fact that the car was delivered on an empty gas tank and absolutely filthy - inside and out. They did not provide any of the car's mats - which according to the ad when purchased, would be provided.
I provided the mechanic's invoice the same day (within 12 hours of receiving the vehicle) - SHIFT tossed me around for months, refusing to acknowledge the issues and making me jump through hoops to even be spoken to (the invoice couldn't be emailed, then it couldn't be hand-written, then it had to be stamped by the mechanic - each time I fulfilled their requirements, they came up with new ones to drag out the process.) By the time they acknowledged the situation, they claimed it had been "too long past the return window" and they would no longer accept the car as a return.
I fought with SHIFT for close to 6 months, providing emails and data showing that I had contacted them within 12 hours of delivery, and they still would not take the car back, nor provide any resolution for the excessive amount of repairs that were needed on the vehicle.
Months later, I tried to trade the car back in with them - they blocked my VIN and marked my car as unacceptable as an exchange. They knew exactly what condition the car was in and would not accept it back on their lot. (If it were in the condition they claimed it was, they would have happily taken it back, like CarMax, Carvana or Enterprise.)
My entire experience after the sale was horrific - I'm stuck with the car and almost $3000 later, I'm still dealing with major issues. SHIFT is a scam - you'd be better off buying straight...
Read moreWe purchased a car from Shift (2015 Honda Odyssey) that had some broken motor mounts, tires out of balance, brakes that have about 30 days left of life. I originally was not going to purchase the warranty but within two hours of driving we decided that something was not right as it was apparent while driving. We called back shift on the next business day and added the warranty after some haggling due to not buying the package the same day they tried to increase the rate for the warranty on me at which point I told them that they would need to start processing the return under the 7 day satisfaction guarantee. Once I had made my intention to return the car known if I was not given the deal for the warranty they then offered it to me for the discounted rate.
Fast forward, I took the van to Beaverton Honda in Beaverton, OR as directed by a shift customer service advisor Britney. The vehicle has $2240 repairs needed and shift has not given the confirmation to fix my vehicle in four business days.
At this point I am going to share this review everywhere I can to discourage people from getting sucked into their falsely advertised low price (each car comes with a shift service fee of $1250 which was not posted on the original listing). Their customer service has been slow processing and if their policy claims to stand by satisfaction this claim needs to be lived up to.
DO NOT BUY FROM SHIFT!
PS. I have been on hold with Shift for 20 minutes today trying to get answers and it feels like I am being put on the...
Read moreWe took our car to the Shift dealer (Echo Park) in Roseville, CA. We agreed on a price, had the pink slip signed by the previous owner and was then told we needed the DMV transfer paperwork completed. We completed the DMV paperwork, sent a copy of what was given us to Echo Park and was told we were good to go. Later that day we returned to Echo Park, signed the car over, they signed the agreement and then said they just needed 1 more approval and that the person had left 5 minutes before we came in but we would get the check in the morning as this was "just a formality". They now have the vehicle, all of the paperwork and we have nothing. In spite of their polished appearance, they are really a shady group, always waiting on someone else to approve and need just 1 more thing. They will also not answer the phone or return calls. We will (hopefully) be able to get the vehicle back but not after spending vast amounts of time only to be given an endless amount of excuses. This has been a horrible experience, this is not a good dealership, STAY FAR, FAR Away from these guys. Carmax is and was by far more professional and easy to deal with. Every other on line dealer I have spoken with explained up front what was required, these guys are one lie after the other. Every other dealer will purchase your vehicle with a Bill of Sale. I am filing a complaint with every agency I can think of on these guys, maybe some inquiries from the State Agencies will make them clean...
