We loved the Victorian Home Walk Tour! It’s a must do in San Francisco! It is about 2 hours and on select days of the week meeting at 11am at Union Square. Our guide, Jay, was exactly where he said he would be and was very easy to find. He also recommended the least expensive parking garage, which is the Mission Street Parking Garage on 5th and Mission Street. This is a good 20 minute walk to Union Square, but you pass several parking structures which are way more expensive. Jay was fabulous! He was on time, professional, and extremely knowledgeable about not only all the Victorian homes and styles, but the various kinds of international trees, flowers, and general history of San Francisco. You can see his love for the city is emulated in his tours.
A majority of this tour took place just a blocks from Japantown. We went inside the Queen Ann Hotel, which is a Victorian gem and just stunning! We saw the Mrs. Doubtfire house, the “Party of Five” house, and a few other celebrity houses. You do not see the Full House row of houses, but it is on the same street we were on, just several blocks down. It is a walking tour so be prepared to walk. You do get on a bus in the beginning of the tour, but the ticket is included. It is family friendly as we took our one-year-old and he did fine. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather with pants and at least a light jacket as the city is usually always chilly and windy even in the summer. You pay $25 in cash at the end of the tour and are given a complimentary magnet. We highly...
Read moreWe were so lucky to find this tour of the beautiful Victorian homes in San Francisco. It's a walking tour and even though I have knee problems, I was able to tolerate this with no pain. It's slow and low impact and the streets are not the sometimes 90 degree angles other SF streets seem to have. The guide, Jay, was so knowledgeable and gave lots of info regarding the 1906 earthquake and subsequent fire and how many of these lovely homes were spared. We had a special tour of the Queen Anne Hotel, which is particularly beautiful at Christmastime. Since Jay is a long-time SF resident, we were able to get additional information about great restaurants and other attractions to visit. It was a delightful way to spend the afternoon strolling around the neighborhoods. If you have time for one guided tour, this is the one you...
Read moreI cannot recommend this tour enough. Jay took our entire family (16 people) on a private tour! It was perfectly planned to not have to walk up any hills making it easy for my older parents to join in.
The amount of knowledge he has is incredible as well. We learned so much even as someone that lives here that I wouldn’t have otherwise known.
He also knows how to lead a crowd. I’ve been on many walking tours in my travels and he made sure we could hear him, and stopped at the perfect points along the journey. He also gave us enough time to tour things ourselves and ask a ton of questions!
This is a must do for locals and visitors alike! Truly a special experience! Jay is an amazing tour guide and human and I can’t wait to take all my visitors...
