I would like to write a review about my interaction and the ethics of this store.
I was the neighbor of Denise and Merchant for 3 years. This November, we needed to break our lease and move out 4 months early. Since we were leasing our space for 5 years, it was significantly under market value for someone to take over our sublease(Sub 1700 retail rent on Lincoln Blvd). We considered putting our space on Craigslist and looking for a sublease take over, but instead thought we would be nice and offer Denise this space before we put it up for lease.
We offered the space for Denice Mid October, and she said she would take it. So at that point, we did not list it on craigslist and a few days went by. We had some discussions of doing a straight sublease or going to our landlord and giving up the lease. After she said she would take the space she started complaining about how she is going out of town for two weeks in November and she didn't want to pay the November rent. At this point we contacted the landlord, not knowing Denise was not going to pay for the November rent, and informed them of the situation. Denise then spoke to the landlord behind our back and told them they were not interested in paying for November, and her and the landlord came to an agreement. Dense refused to pay for the November rent, and the landlord then said we either pay for November or we don't get to break the lease.
Now we didn't have to offer Denise the lease, and we were trying to do a good thing. Instead of being a stand-up person and saying, "Thanks for looking out for me. It is amazing you offered me your space as its right next door to my current space! Its not problem I will pay for November" She backstabbed us into paying a month of rent we didn't need. We had found a new tenant who was fully qualified, but the landlord was not interested anymore once her and Denise came to an agreement behind our back.
So if you buy anything from this store, be aware of the ethics and mind the return policy of these people. If they are willing to treat someone who lends a hand like this, imagine once you leave the store and have an issue with your product. Pretty...
Read moreI love Merchant. It's very personal, each piece for sale is carefully selected. I have never seen anything manufactured in a factory - pieces are handmade, unique and one of a kind. You can't walk out without leaving with something perfect for your home or a gift for a lucky friend. And the owners are always fun to have a chat with. Lincoln Blvd is rapidly changing and Merchant is a good illustration of that change. I'll be...
