Iāve never worn foundation. But since the mask mandate has lifted I figured it was time to try something new. Of course I didnāt know my shade and I was worried about spending a lot of money on something that will either make me look like a ghost or have unintentional blackface. Not exactly the look Iām going for.
I heard about Sephoraās foundation color matching. And I decided to go there and have them color match me rather than risk buying a foundation I canāt even try before I buy.
Mind you, I get the anxiety that we as women feel when we enter a beauty store when we donāt feel as beautiful compared to everyone else. This was no different. As soon as I walked in I could feel myself panic. I had no idea who to ask or where to find the brand that I was looking for. It could have been my own anxiety but a lot of the other customers and some employees tend to look down on you if you donāt look a certain way. I was about ready to give up when a nice older women (I didnāt get her name) asked if I needed help. I told her the brand I was looking for and she said was wasnāt familiar with the brand (I think she was the representative for Dior makeup) but she asked another employee, Brielle, to help me.
Now let me tell you, Brielle was the most patient and kind person Iāve ever met at a makeup store. She showed me where the foundation I wanted was and she color matched me with like three different foundations. She gave me wipes to remove the swatches and walked me around almost the whole store. I asked her so many questions, which she answered with a smile. (I assume as she was wearing a mask) Basically she helped me feel less clueless and more confident. My foundation fits me perfectly. (I got the Patrick Starr One/Size powder foundation and the BB cream, highly recommend) Iām happy to spend $80 on it so long as it matched me. (But seriously Sephora, I am so poor and I just wanna buy more!!) I will definitely be back to buy more once I run out and thanks to Brielle, I am confident Iāll be getting the right shade in like 3 different brands. (Also she helped me sign up for the rewards program and I got a birthday gift because it was my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been an avid Sephora shopper since 2015 and this particular location has been a frequent visit for me for years. I think I'm officially done with Sephora however. Generally speaking, their rewards and bday gifts have gotten pathetic recently. I remember before I would trade my points in for actual makeup samples including half/full tubes of mascara, mini lipsticks (not just the samples you get, but legit mini lipsticks), etc. Now their reward gifts are skincare or hair related items. I don't want to redeem 500 points for a conditioner. Maybe that's just me, but I used to love exploring new makeup brands via my rewards points.
Now onto this location in particular. Staff here is very hit or miss, mostly miss. Kind of rude, not very personable, and honestly, not very knowledgeable about the products either. I get there's lots of different brands but at least be well versed on the popular/best sellers. This location is also super dirty/messy. Makeup displays should look pretty and fancy, not so much when there is caked on foundation and concealer everywhere, missing samples, broken displays, etc. It looks forgotten and neglected. And I've noticed particular displays here that have looked like this for months (example - the Huda Beauty display). I love Huda Beauty, but the display here looks like it hasn't been cleaned in weeks, I don't want to touch anything and get foundation all over my fingers. This location is also out of a lot of items usually, including their rewards gifts and bday gifts. It's annoying.
Overall, planning to spend my remaining Sephora rewards and start purchasing directly from the beauty lines I like. But avoid this particular location if you can, it's just messy and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery poor experience. I was approached by a worker who initially was helpful with helping me pick out a product. However, then they started product pushing. I understand that it is their job to recommend products, but they were not saying very kind things. She was saying things like my skin was very dry and wrinkly under the eyes (which am I mistaken or arenāt those a natural part of life?) and makeup was cakey in order to get me to buy other things I didnāt need. I got so self conscious with how I looked I asked multiple people if what this worker said was true and all of them said no. But also itās the dead of winter of course my skin is a bit dryer, but I also have combo skin. Iām 22 years old and itās not my first time doing makeup or skin care. If anything was wrong with my makeup itās related to skin texture, which is why I have a dermatologist to take recommendations from. Iām a cancer survivor with multiple chronic conditions including skin issues, so Iām aware my skin isnāt perfect. This worker may not have known that, but still thatās not how you should speak to someone in general. I donāt know if she thought I would be an easy target to up sale products to because I said I was bad at picking out my correct shade or what. Either way it was all very condescending like she thought I was dumb and just very off putting as someone whoās worked in the service industry. I usually shop online for convenience, but I wanted to try to go in store to find my shades and the fact that this was my experience was very disappointing. Essentially, donāt degrade your customers to...
