please don’t shop here and just find the brand name items they have either online or at other stores. (I found them on sale elsewhere).
All the other 1-star reviews on abysmal, rude customer service / racial profiling / discrimination - are sadly accurate. (There are a lot spanning over years!). Unfortunately I didn’t read them beforehand.
after entering and seeing an employee (very very short gray-ish hair) treat a group of elderly Caucasian women so kindly, I thought how nice-- until I was treated the exact opposite. I wasn’t greeted at all by either of the two employees who definitely saw me, but instead, followed me around like I was going to steal something. it took maybe 15 min to be acknowledged, and asked if I needed help with anything (store wasn’t busy at all). I thought my young child and parents who later joined me would help ease the profiling, but definitely didn’t. The short-haired lady watched us (and I saw her watch another mother with kids of color) like a hawk. The other woman with longer hair was a little bit less rude/offered me a changing room, but still wasn’t very warm and welcoming.
It was just overall a very uncomfortable and a very negative experience especially as someone from out of town.
I’d definitely actively not recommend folks to shop here and invest their money elsewhere.
I agree with the other reviewers that with so many other negative reviews, the owner(s) would want to address and help change things around, but this isn’t the case. as someone else mentioned, it might aide to get a security guard/cameras if store owners are so worried about theft, and/or just put a sign up that says who is welcome and who isn’t — so it’s at least plain to see, and those who aren’t can save themselves the trouble of being...
Read moreWorst experience ever! First, when walking through the door one of the older ladies looked me up and down (YES, I'm a black female) and proceeded to ask "do you need something?" When I asked if they carried bathing suits, she again looked me up and down then said "for you?" Now being a size 10 isn't the end if the world for me, but it clearly bothered her. I stated I needed it for my daughter who is an adult, and she jusr assumed was a child. She took us to a rack and proceeded to watch us while we looked through the suits, not asking if we needed assistance. While my daughter was trying on the bathing suit one stayed right by the dressing room and the other follwed me around while I was waiting for my daughter and looking at the clothing, oddly uncomfortable. After making the purchase for the bathing suit we were then escorted out the door by one of the older ladies while the other lady waited by the front door to watch us leave! Absolutely appalling and uncalled for, they didn't even try to hide their bias and stereotyping! Disgusting and uneducated older women! Very Disheartening! And to think I still spent my hard earned money there just so my daughter could enjoy our family...
Read moreTer Hars has horrible customer service. We have a vacation home in Cannon Beach and have frequented the local shops. It is well known to locals that Ter Hars is not consumer friendly. The staff like to socialize amongst themselves and appear to be annoyed when customers request help. For some misguided reason, I visited the store and purchased a pair of boots. Every time I wore the boots the closure would come undone making them impossible to wear. I went into Ter Hars and explained the problem with the boot closures. The first response from the salesperson was we are not accepting a return or exchange. She looked at the boots and said it appears the boots are defective. So they sold a pair of faulty boots but feel no obligation to return, exchange or even give their customer a suggestion to remedy the situation? Whoever owns or manages Ter Hars is either uneducated in customer service or just doesn't care. The bottom line is Ter Hars is there to sell to the unsuspecting tourist who will not be in the vicinity to frequent their store or require...
