So I have been skiing and snowboarding for 52 years. Plus my backcountry experience has been in place for 32 years now. With over a hundred days a year for all of those years. So my knowledge is extremely vast. The intel that I have to share with you is important. To your success in the department of making great purchases. Buying online is one thing but when you are making an investment as large and with a high need for quality and proper fit. You need to go to a shop and check out all of your options. For you can not and will not be able to figure out if it is the exact correct purchase by just looking online. You need to have your hands on the product and get some knowledgeable intel from a staff that knows how to look at you and make some intuitively decisions on what will work good for you. My friend Mike Warner and his staff at the Seattle store are more than well equipped enough to handle all of your needs. As well as any other Cripple Creek Backcountry location. This year I picked up a new Cardiff snowboard along with some new Sparks pucks, bindings, and phantom toe pieces plus some Atomic Backland ski boots with a custom boot fitting. These guys n gals where so great at helping me. I am totally and completely satisfied with all areas of there service. And let me tell you what if you are looking for a super dank snow sliding utensil I would more than highly recommend any of the boards in the Cardiff lineup.

Cripple Creek is a one stop shop for knowledge, gear, and expertise. I highly encourage setting up an appointment to make sure you connect with the right person and make sure they have time to help. My first connection was with Michael, who is a friendly and very knowledgeable split boarder. He helped educate me in the world of hard boot split boards, guided my decision making process across boots, boards, bindings and more. Not only that, Cripple Creek will help support you in the unfortunate event of a warranty issue, taking the hard work off your plate, allowing you to get back on the mountain. Additionally, they have an extensive demo fleet allowing you to compare and contrast all parts of your purchase before you commit. If you are looking for real people who care about your experience, look no further than Cripple Creek. I truly can't thank this team enough for all the support over the last few weeks!

With an adaptive mountain bike it's challenging to find shops willing to work on it or with the interest in doing it well. Charlie from Basalt Bikes is both - excited to tinker with something new but also with the know-how to do it right. The super-quick turnaround was also incredible. Even with some custom work and non-standard parts to install a rollbar, Charlie said it was the most fun he's had working on a bike in a while. I'm telling all my adaptive rider friends that Basalt Bikes is the best shop in Seattle!

I wouldn’t recommend this shop above others, especially for the price. I see how they would be great for catering to every gruff PNW bravado dude who constantly has something to prove, but if you’re anything but that, I wouldn’t recommend. Each person fitting for boots, sans perhaps one person there, acts like he is gods gift to the world with the most knowledge of skiing that has ever been bestowed upon a person- which they are not. Beyond this, I accompanied a friend to get their boots fitted and they never actually acknowledged my existence in the space, until I bought something and even that was unnecessarily cold. I’ve been boot fitting and am instructing for years. While talking with my friend about the boots, it was pretty obvious that I knew what I was talking about beyond a basic understanding but despite this they still didn’t acknowledge my existence, at all, as if I was an actual ghost. However, every gruff white man walking in got a “hey how ya doing, I can help you in a moment”. Now while I’m the opposite that most people tag as an experienced skier professionally in the industry (a small frame, young, black woman) I am very used to not immediately receiving any respect in these spaces- this was on another level. The juxtaposition of this experience with the shop being filled with a playlist of Common songs waxing poetic of Black liberation was, well typical for the PNW, but still beyond aggravating. I have given this shop so many chances, I’ve been in over 5 times- I will not be going again. I hope y’all can do better and take this review as a wake up call instead of a moment to be...

TLDR: Great experience with Basalt bikes. I would recommend to anyone without qualification.

Service: I brought in a bike for hydraulic brake installation, internal cable routing, and tubeless tire set up. Each of these tasks can be difficult, especially for a home mechanic. Basalt completed the services in a day, which is amazingly prompt for the area. Most other places take at least a week, especially in the Summer. Furthermore, Basalt's service is responsive: when they noticed a potential mismatch between parts I provided and the service I requested, they contacted me right away to set things straight. My frame is not widely distributed in the US, so there's no local dealer and the services I asked for can be challenging. They explained to me how they planned to solve the specific issues I brought up in case I had future issues, and talked over the results upon completion. This is extremely helpful in case I need future service or want to perform quick fixes on my own.

Price: their per hour service charges were right in line with 2 other bike shops I know of in the same area.

Atmosphere: The staff were patient, flexible, answered my concerns, and even welcomed me on their shop ride. The were willing to discuss any step in the service I requested and willingly discussed alternatives without reserve. Excellent...
