Came here for a date night and was honestly expecting more of a "hands on" experience. We entered and were told to choose our top 3 scent choices from the 80 different scents on the wall which was a fun little experience smelling a bunch of different candles. Then we headed to the shelf section to choose our candle holders made from glass ranging from $27-33 each to pour our candle mixture in. You can also choose from diffusers and sprays which are slightly cheaper. Then we went back to our station where they had hot wax already heated for us and we just measured out our top 3 scent oils and we added it to the hot wax and were done and yup that's it! For a $30 candle making expereince I was expecting a little more to the process like choosing different colors for the wax, or adding different textures like snowflakes to my candle and also would have been cool if they had different candle structures to choose from for the wax. There was a place in San Diego I went to where you could choose the shape of your candle and the colors and scents so you could have like a moon candle or a snowflake candle which was pretty cool. But yeah this place was pretty boring in terms of actually "making" a candle and doesn't really give much time for you and your date to bond either. Anyways cool concept if they expand on it further.
Also another bad part is you can't take the candle home right away and have to wait for it to cool down for about 2hrs. There needs to be a faster process for people visiting from out of town or if you don't live in the area its really hard to come back to Capital Hill find parking and pickup your candle. My friend was visiting from Portland and wanted to take his candle home but they closed by 9pm and we got there at 7:30pm so he won't be able to pickup his candle for a few weeks until he is back in town, but ideally there needs to be a faster cooling process for people to take home their candles. Just an idea! Oh and they do hold your candle for 6 months but honestly who is really going to remember picking up a candle after a week even. Staff here is very welcoming, nice and knowledgeable so that's a plus!
The location in Capital Hill is great and the place itself has a nice open feel to it but only street parking...
Read moreLast weekend, my girlfriends and I visited Elm Candle Bar for a unique DIY scent experience, and it was nothing short of amazing. This place offers a delightful opportunity to craft your own candles, diffusers, room sprays, or wax tarts, allowing for a personalized touch to your creations.
The process is incredibly engaging and fun. You start by selecting your favorite scents from an extensive variety displayed on the wall. With a clipboard in hand, you jot down your picks and then zero in on your top three choices. The real magic begins when you mix these scents to your liking, crafting a scent thatâs uniquely yours. If you're unsure about combinations, the staff is exceptionally skilled in recommending harmonious scent pairings.
While there is a bit of a wait for the wax tarts and candles (around 2 and a half hours), you can leave immediately with your custom-made room sprays and diffusers. This flexibility was much appreciated by our group.
The ambiance of Elm Candle Bar adds to the experience. The place is clean, welcoming, and stylishly laid out with a plethora of choices that inspire creativity. What made our visit exceptionally memorable was the staff. They were not just knowledgeable about scent combinations but also exuded a friendly, attentive, and accommodating demeanor. Mikey, in particular, provided excellent guidance on scent combos, enhancing our experience.
One of the most surprising aspects of this experience was learning how mixing scents can reflect personal tastes and preferences. It was a journey of self-discovery and bonding, as each of us learned more about ourselves and each other.
I wholeheartedly recommend making an appointment at Elm Candle Bar. It's a perfect way to take a break from the hustle and bustle and indulge in a relaxing, creative, and joyful activity. Whether youâre looking for a unique gift or a fun outing with friends, this place is...
Read moreElm Candle Bar has become a yearly tradition for me! Any time I'm hosting a friend or family member from out of town, I take them to Elm and it's always a hit. Not only are you going to have an enjoyable time with the person you bring, but they get to go home with a souvenir that will remind them of the experience each time they light their candle!
The scent experts are friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. I'm terrible at pairing scents and I can tell you from experience that they will be as little or as much involved in helping you decide on the perfect scent combination as you want them to be. They're there to help!
Elm has a large wall of scents to choose from, and their process is actually pretty friendly to the indecisive as they give you plenty of room to choose as many scents as you like. They then have you pick your top 3, but if you have difficulty, the employees will work through it with you and make their recommendations based on your list and their expertise. Once you're settled on the scents, you are given complete control of how much you put in of each scent. This is where you get to see the scents come together and decide which notes you want to be strongest.
They also have a variety of candle containers and other scent products like wax melts and diffusers, should you not want a candle! Solidifying the wax takes a few hours, and you'll need to go back to Elm later to collect your goods. So make sure that you plan for that if you're not already local to cap hill! The wait and price is worth it for the experience and pride in having made something that you can enjoy for a long time. I think Elm is a great activity whether you're alone or...
