A new location for a beloved Seattle bookstore, artsy and cosmopolitan, defiantly intellectual while also retaining the quirkiness of the city. While I was here, some small booksellers were talking to the clerk about a book on the history of radicalism in Echo Park in Los Angeles and how it grew out of 19th century spiritualism: that is the kind of place this is, and I find it quite charming. It is the kind of place where black turtlenecks are welcome and you can ask questions about French philosophy and probably get a decent answer: urbane, hip, and a little pretentious, but never snooty or condescending. It is a small bookstore, but it is quite a memorable one.
