Don't believe everything you read. My French wife, mother-in-law and I came here today after reading a "so-so" review by Seattle Times food writer Bethany Jean Clement (May 8th, 2025). Having known of owner Orphee's journey and credentials, we had to come experience it for ourselves. We were NOT disappointed!
First off, the ambiance is special. We were fortunate enough to get indoor seating, but we look forward to returning when the weather is nicer to enjoy the sidewalk seating and people watching. Inside, the decor elicits a Parisian feel with aromas drifting out from the kitchen. The staff is engaging and welcoming, making the wait very tolerable (the line was out the door due to its popularity).
We began our meal with the fromage (cheese) and charcuterie tray; the authenticity and quality were top-tier. We followed this with the Croque-Monsieur (mouthwatering, with the right level of flavorful bechamel and Gruyere cheese topping) and Le Parisien "Cochon" (this traditional ham sandwich in an appropriately harder artesian crusted baguette accentuated with a salted black truffle butter).
Next, of course, we had to try the deserts from this elite pastry chef! The flavors still resonate on my palate. We enjoyed both the raspberry tart and lemon meringue. The lady at the table adjacent to us remarked that the raspberries looked like they were picked this morning. Keeping it simple, my MIL and I had an Americano while my wife had the lychee juice. Having previously worked for a local "large" coffee company, I can honestly say that the roast is of premium quality.
Finally, filled to the rim, we took pastries home for our afternoon snack. My wife had a casse-noisette (chocolate and hazelnuts) and I a chocolate almond cherry croissant. Both were as described and confirmed our imminent return. As you can see, I believe we "sampled" enough to be able to provide an extensive and objective review. Did I mention that my wife is native French including having lived in Paris for...

I first visited at the end of June for a casual lunch after a morning hike, and was so taken by the quality, care, and actual joy in every bite that I broke my usual rule of never repeating restaurants on vacation…and went back the next morning.
From the Le Parisien Cochon — think the combo of perfectly crusty baguette with truffle-infused salted butter, tender ham, and Emmental with a delightful sweetness — to the tarte au yuzu layered with dreamy meringue, lemon-grapefruit confit, and bright, silky yuzu cream, every item was both elegant and satisfying.
The chef himself was in the shop that day and graciously gifted me a warm beignet - which was, of course, simple but delicious. The kouign amann came fresh out of the oven, its buttery layers caramelized to perfection. I got a whole baguette and a jar of salmon rillettes to go the next morning (anfter ordering a quiche and coffee for breakfast) and had myself a wonderful picnic with some goat cheese and apricots!
Everything I got was an honest celebration of good ingredients and precise, loving craft. Definitely one of my recent culinary delights. And at the risk of repeating myself, I highly recommend having their baguette as a household staple (they come out fresh several times a day, so maybe go early if you can!)
Merci, Chef Orphée. I can’t...

Nestled in Pioneer Square, this gem of a café is everything you'd hope for in a Parisian-style escape right down to the buttery croissants and the warm, welcoming ambiance. From the moment you step inside, you're transported. The smell of fresh baguettes and espresso fills the air, the staff greet you like family, and the attention to detail is amazing!
Must-tries: Their croissants are flaky, golden perfection. The butter (yes, the butter) is imported from France and might just ruin you for all other butter. The pastries are delicate, not overly sweet, and baked fresh in-house. Delicious!🔥 Oh, and the quiche? Silky, savory heaven. Chef Orphée himself was walking around, checking in on guests, so genuine and passionate about his craft. You can feel the love in every dish and every detail of the space. Whether you're craving a cozy solo breakfast, a romantic café moment, or a chic brunch with friends, this place delivers. It’s not just a meal, it’s an experience. Go. Run. Take someone you love, or treat yourself. You deserve this kind of joy. All the best, Andre’
