Hello my name is sterling, when we got too Seattle someone we met showed us around town. When nightime came, he showed us a place called roots. Loved the place. But not less then thirty minutes being in the shelter, they kicked this guy out who tried breaking my pregnant girls door down trying to force him self on her. I thought THIS place was good for me and my girl. Till the next day, we got kicked out for play fighting without no warning. When they finally let us come back they did the same thing kicking me and my prego girl out the homeless shelter. A guy named David asked us to leave that were kicked out. With no warning kicked us out. When I comfronted him about it, he started getting physical and I started cussing him out. They said we were kicked out on our second time for 4 months for play fighting but they said it was physical violence when it wasnt. We tried calling the place to ask for a manager but every time me and my girl called they would hang up on us or when they finally answered they would laugh at us or cuss us out saying we were retarded and saying we got kicked out on probable cause when it wasn't. I have every recorded situation of them doing that on my phone. I recorded every call. Roots and almost every staff there were very unprofessional and seem like they didn't want to help out any homeless youth. If u guys go too roots, and you need anything, talk to Kayla. She would help u out more then the workers even the managers. She seen that they were trying to make my prego girl starve when they promised her food. She told the cops yes she was banging on the door when it was wrong, but they did promise her food. The cops got mad at them for doing that. The cops help out the homeless more then roots does. After hearing that I heard they were trying to find us and buy us food. Don't go to roots. Cuz they don't check for drugs or weapons. They ask and u can say no and walk by. And later u could be dead from a gun knife or even an overdose in the bathroom. That's what I got to say...
Read moreLike an oasis when you are under a certain age and in a " specific " situation. There is a fairly good amount of room inside and I would say most people that show up on time do receive access , but occasionally , so many individuals show up , a lottery system becomes implemented and the temporarily unfortunate selected individual (s) have to relocate to a different emergency shelter location in an attempt to find refuge. Although , even if an individual is referred to an alternate location , food and beverage ( i think , possibly . . . not too sure about beverage ) AND possible assistance with transportation around the City of Seattle in the form of a bus ticket usually is administered. Computers and Internet access is available , clothing , various supplies , Showers , Dinner and Breakfast ( if you are vegetarian or Vegan . . . might wanna use your " electronic benefit transfer " ). Surveillance and Camera's but i am not 100% sure if they are actually functioning . . . but when I used to live in the State of Washington . . . and I was accessing services at the Roots Young Adult Shelter , I do remember seeing Camera's in various places 👍 .7 days a week I believe ! Thanks Roots ! Moving to Texas...
Read moreThis facility houses almost 59 beds for homeless youth ages 18 - 25 in the University District area of Seattle. This is not only an over-night shelter but an outstanding outreach program and great place to get help finding resources and services. There are staff that work here as well as volunteers, and although not all of them are kind and helpful, most of these individuals are the most compassionate and caring people you could ever meet.
On site they provide to all their guests: dinner and breakfast, computer access, a small clothes donation center, several showers and restrooms, laundry "slots"(many of the staff/volunteers even kindly fold your non-delicate items), as well as medium sized lockers which you can earn on a weekly basis in exchange for chores. Many of these things are on a first come first served basis.
If you ever know anyone in need, do not shy away from recommending this non-profit program. They don't discriminate on anyone, based on sex, identity, race, etcetara etcetara. They do a daily intake at 8 pm...
